FOR BOYS RANCH — Abilene Optimists Friday made their annual presentation of
a Christmas tree to the youngsters at Boys Ranch. Willie Morgan (center) accepted
the tree on behalf of the boys. The presentation was made by L. S. Perry (right),
chairman of the Optimist Club Christmas tree sales; and Clarence Collins (left), club
. president. The Optimists closed out their annual Christmas tree sales Friday and
gave about 40 remaining trees to the Salvation Army for distribution. The club will
net approximately $3,000 from sale of more than 3,000 trees. The money is used in

The latest contributions were
made by two Abilene business
firms who wish to remain anbny-
mous, according to the Rev. Ar-
thur Buhler, chairman of the
Boy s Ranch Board of directors.
Previous donations totalled $2,725.
. A special Boys Ranch committee
| will begin work soliciting additional
funds to retire the debt. Dr. John
Stevens will bead the committee
Dr. Orval Filbeck is vice-chair-
man. Other members are’ Jack
Holden, Bill Barrett and Dr. Dallas
D. Denison.
Requests for aid will also be |
mailed out next week the Rev.
Buhler said. Prospective donors i
will be asked to contribute to re-
tire the debt and toward 1956
operating expenses Donations may-
be made for either or both, be

$25,000 Budget Hinted
The ranch was operated in 1955
on a budget of about $19,000. The
Rev. Buhler said the board of
directors hopes to expand the pro-
gram with a $25,000 budget in 1956.
The Abilene Optimist Club has
already pledged $750 from its
Christmas tree sales for current
operating expenses This is in ad-
dition to a $1,000 dona on toward

Herbert Middleton was installed
as president of the Key City Cam-
era Club at its annual Christmas
banquet Thursday night.
Middleton, who is Taylor County
auditor, succeeded Howard Austin.
Austin presided at the installation
of officers.
Other officers are Leo J. Ryn-
ders, vice president in charge of
the black and white photography
division; Mrs. J. A. Berry, vice
president in charge of the color
photography division; Mrs. J. G.
McKeown, vice president in charge
of the motion picture division;
and Mrs J. H. Austin, secretary;
and J. G. McKeown, treasurer.
Entertainment for the banquet
was provided by the Key City
Four, barbershop quartet; and Ger-
ald Edmundson, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Rufus Edmundson, who per-
formed sleight of hand acts and
feats of magic. The program end-
ed with travel movies made in Ari-
zona and New York.
City Invests Funds
One million dollars received
from sale of a City of Abilene bond
issue has been invested in gov-
ernment certificates of indebted-
ness bearing 2% per cent annual
interest until the funds are needed
for projects.
The bonds were sold Nov. 10 to
eight investments firms. Interest
rate the city will pay is 2.57481 per
cent.
Money from an #00,000 issue
sold Nov. 10 has not been re-
ceived. Receipt of the money hin-
ges on delivery of the bonds to
buyers.
The one million dollars was from
a water and sewer revenue bond
issue. The balance were tax bonds.
Family Gets Aid
Abilenians were touched to read
in Friday afternoon's Reporter-
News of the father and seven
children living in poverty to the
northwest part of the city.
The newspaper office received
eight telephone calls from sympa-
thetic folks wanting to help “now.”
That family received food and
clothing before bedtime. Another
Abilenian called and indicated a
desire to provide heating for the
family’s three-room shack.
Deputy's Brother
Seriously Injured
COLORADO CITY, Dec. 116
(RNS)—"Serious but not critical"
was the report given Friday night
on Elmo Herring, 46, who was in-
jured Thursday afternoon in an oil-
field accident.
He is in Root Memorial Hospital
here.
The report was made by Deputy
Sheriff W. C. 'Claude) Herring of
Abilene, a brother of the injured
man. ——
Elmo Herring is suffering from
a brain concussion and bruises. It
will be several days before doctors
will know the full nature of his
injuries, his brother said.
