Boiler Explodes
A front wall of Martin Linen
Supply Co., 634 S. 11th St., was
puffed out by a boiler explosion
about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday. A work-
er standing nearby was not in-
jured.
Joe Shelton, about 25, was light-
ing the boiler when it exploded.
George Harrelson, manager, said.
Harrelson said Shelton was alone
in the boiler room, although other
workers were in an adjacent build-
ing.
No reason was given for the
blast; no damage estimate could
be given, Harrelson said. He said
gas company officials and firemen
were investigating.
Fire Marshal L. A. Blackwood
said that the explosion apparently
was caused by accumulations of
gas inside the Boiler's firebox and
insulation.
