ANNUAL REPORT
LEGISLATIVE
Reports on the legislative front are given
elsewhere and will not be repeated here.
MUSEUM
The Museum continued to add it its collec-
tions. Our Arlington - A & M Constituency
(Joan DeBusk, Scott Holt, Brenda Graves,
Larry Galbiati, Sam Hoover, Gary King, Jame
Swim, Robert Schmidt, et al) are developin
insect and fish collections for us. They
have identified specimens, and they
plan to prepare other specimens. (O2
the side, they are also trail-blazing in
Rosier Park.)
Numerous valuable gifts and lend-lease iter
continue to be donated. The local history
area is being reworked, and the Committee
hopes to prepare uniform, informative labe:
for exhibits in the coming year.
Visitors have increased threefold since th(
radio spots began last December. Almost
every weekend one or more groups visit us.
The Museum Advisory Committee has received
excellent reports from Dr. Michael Warren
(Lamar), Dr. Francis Abernethy (Stpphen F.
Austin), and Dr. J. P. Kennedy (UTex Grad.
School of Bio-medical Sciences). Other
reports are pending.
PUBLICATIONS
A memorial volume honoring Lance Rosier was
published in January. Entitled Thicket
Explorer, it sells for $3.00 in the Museum,
In progress is Louis Hofferbert's sketches
on area wildlife that behave like humans,
(and vice versa) which will be illustrated
by Clyde Peterson (Houston Chronicle). In
addition, Lois Parker keeps adding items tc
the next edition of the Bibliography and
can't find a stopping place.
GROUNDS
The Houston Slough (otherwise known as the
Houston Chapter) was instrumental in the
gift received from Mr. and Mrs. Gerald
David Mize for landscaping our grounds.
(Continued next column)This generous gift almost overwhelmed
the board of directors, and we are looking
forward gleefully to watching Lynn Lowrey
progress (Lowrey Nursery Houston will do
the work).
FINANCE
Lacking a chairman (in name anyway), the
Finance Committee operates more effectively
s than most committees with chairmen! Through
their efforts more than $2,000 has been re-
ceived in cash gifts and numerous other
valuable gifts in services. Most of the
funds raised will go to the Land Purchase
Fund. They have also added several life
members and business members to our list.
S While the Finance Committee quietly did
its work, other zealots (who shall be name-
less) were responsible for a spectacular
s financial reversal--to wit, a benefit show
cancelled for non-appearance of the artist.
The zealots have now decided they will
never replace Sol Hurok.
