shame and a disgrace and an
insult to the United States.
The U. N. says we cannot
bomb Manchuria or China
proper. We must let them
bomb us and let our boys die
on the battle field by the
thousands. And they are do-
ing so. How long are we, who
have been furnishing the fight-
ers, munitions of war and food
and finance for a great many
of our so-called allies going to
let them tell us that we cannot
use our greatest weapon in
this fight for survival?
Are we going to wait until
gangster Russia gets a stock
pile of atom bombs as large or
larger than ours before we
dare to use them?
Are we going to permit
England and France and some
of the other European coun-
tries—which are first cousins
of the communists—tell us
that we cannot use our full re-
sources to preserve our Demo-
cratic system of government?
How long are we going to
let those who are themselves
only one step from commun-
ism, tell us that we shall not
use the weapons we have to
save civilization?
Don’t you think, dear reader,
that it is time that we get down
to business, that we tell our
European allies that they are
going to have to show good
faith or we will have to turn
to looking after our own in-
terests and fight for our own
survival?
Isn’t it enough that we have
let Red Russia take over five
hundred million Chinese, make
slaves of them and use them
to fight us when we could
have saved them from com-
munism and had them fight-
ing for us instead of against
us?
Of course, no one in Wash-
ington will admit that he has
any communistic leanings, but
Gangster Joe Stalin could not
hire any one who could do a
better job for him than did
some of our own anti-com-
munist officials.

the approval of the producers.
Nevertheless, the depart-
ment will maintain a close
check on crop prospects and
national demands arising from
the emergency and will take
the necessary action if it is later
found that a larger supply of
peanuts would be demanded
during the coming year.
Since wartime production
of peanuts is primarily design-
ed to obtain large quantities
of oil, the peanut crop situation
must be correlated with other
such important vegetable oil
crops as cottonseed and soy-
beans. Should a shortage of
these two crops be indicated
later, it could mean an increase
in peanut acreage, the spokes-
man pointed out. •
Another important factor in
the future demand for vege-
table oil in this country is a
continuing supply of copra,
used heavily by soap manu-
facturers. from the Philip-
pines. Should this supply be
cut off due to war conditions
in the Far East, it would mean
a larger requirement for dom-
estic vegetable oil crops.
As the military forces of the
United States increase, the de-
mand for peanuts will also
rise steadily. The armed ser-
vices used tremendous quanti-
ties of peanuts for various edi-
ble purposes during the last
war—far more per person than
the average consumption in
the nation.
Although there was a size-
able opposition to the market-
ing quotas in the producers’
referendum, they were ap-
proved by a comfortable mar-
gin, the final report by the
department disclosed. A total
of 48,790 producers voted in
favor of the controls, while
20,120 voted against them.
In Texas the vote was 7142
in favor and 3345 against.
In its stock report on pea-
nuts published Tuesday, the
department reported the sup-
ply in November amounted to
1,318,000,000 pounds on a
farmers’ stock equivalent bas-
is, This excludes stocks on
farms and holdings of shelled
oil stock peanuts. Compara-
tive holdings a year ago
amounted to 907,000,000
pounds.
Acreage total for the na-
tion fixed by the department
for 1951 will be 1,771,117 acres,
unless revised later. This is
429,077 less acres than the
total allotments for 1950.
