Two agencies
join efforts to
provide meals
The Mercedes Housing Author-
ity has partnered together with
Amigos del Valle to provide daily nu-
trition for the residents of the Queen
City Retreat and surrounding areas.
The “Meals on Wheels” program
began on February 1 with about 25
registered participants. Currently,
there are about 50 participants who
are receiving a hot meal during the
noon hour and these meals are pro-
vided to them at no cost; however,
any donations are welcomed.
This program encourages the
Queen City Retreat residents to main-
tain healthy, active lives by socializ-
ing amongst themselves and other
community members.
Toni Cadena, Senior Center Direc-
tor with Amigos del Valle, was on hand
to take applications and explain the
program to Queen City Retreat resi-
dents. Mrs. Cadena also informed
them that with this program they
would receive at least one hot meal
per day Monday through Friday from
11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and that some
applicants may even qualify for meals
on the weekend.
