Congressman Ruben Hinojosa
(TX-15) has announced the release
of $661,333 in funding through the US
Department of Transportation’s Fed-
eral Highway Administration for con-
struction and improvements to US 83
in Hidalgo and Cameron Counties.
Last year, Congressman Hinojosa
secured $1 million in funding for this
project in the FY 2005 Omnibus Act
that was passed in November 2004.
This initial release of funds will be
supplemented by the balance when
Congress authorizes Federal High-
way spending for the remainder of the
year. The funds will be used for wid-
ening lanes on US 83 from FM 1425
to the Hidalgo/Cameron County Line.
“I am pleased to hear that the first
round of funding from the US Depart-
ment of Transportation has been re-
leased so that we can continue to
widen the lanes on US 83,” the Con-
gressman says. “As our community
continues to experience a record
amount of growth, we need to ensure
that our infrastructure can support
our growing needs.
“I will continue to work with my
colleagues to guarantee more fund-
ing for transportation projects in the
15th Congressional District,” he con-
cludes.
