Mercedes High School’s Class of
1957 is planning a 50th Year Class
Reunion for September 29, to take
place in conjunction with the
Mercedes Centennial Celebration,
organizers report.
It’s also timed to coincide with the
“Almost Annual Multi-Class Re-
union,” set for the night before, on
September 28

Members of the Mercedes High
School Class of 1966 are making plans
to attend a multi-class reunion on Fri-
day, September 28 at Best Western’s
Palm Aire on FM 1015.

COUPLE ANNOUNCES BIRTH OF SON - Charles and Diana Cantu
Sawyers of Pflugerville announce the birth of a son, Joaquin
Carlomagno, born at 3:24 p.m., July 10 in North Austin Medical
Center. The baby weighed nine pounds, four ounces at birth
and was 21 inches in length. Proud grandparents are Celia D.
Cantu of Mercedes and the late Encarnacion Cantu, and Teresa
Sawyers of Rocky Mount Virginia. Mother of the child is a 1989
graduate of Mercedes High School.

sorts - running along with the Cen-
tennial celebration, organizers say.
“Another ‘Almost Annual Re-
union of Mercedes High School
Classes 1954 through 1965 (or who-
ever wants to join us) is planned for
September 28,” says a notice that has
gone out to graduates from that era.
“This Multi-Class Reunion has
been planned to coincide with the
100th Birthday Party of our
Mercedes,” the announcement con-
tinues, suggesting that reunion at-

mittee will host only-one activity,
which will be a reception on Friday,
September 28, running from 6 p.m. to
10 p.m.,” they say, with the event to
include hors de’ouvres and a cash bar
at the Palm Aire Ballroom, at FM 1015
