neys in the city today looking af-
ter legal business in the Miller cir-
cuit court.
Ex-Sheriff Ed Hood of Emmett
and several other citizens of Neva-
da county came down yesterday to
attend Federal court here. They
returned home on the evening train
after learning that the zourt had
been adjourned over to the fall term
in November.
Judge Hearn of the Miller circuit
court is expected on the Iron
Mountain cannon ball today from
Arkadelphia. He will open court
at 2 o’clock this p. m. for the trans-
action of business on the chancery
docket. None save non jury cases
will be taken up on the law dock-
et.
In the Mayor’s court of the West
side this a. m. the charge against
Kelly the colored barber of the
Huckins House for shooting at the
negro Bray of the Pacific Express
Co. was dismissed and the defend-
ant discharged it appearing that
he had merely acted in defense of
his household.
Miller County candidates should
remember that tomorrow is the last
day allowed for placing their names
on the county primary election tick-
et. Those who have not already
done so-should see to it that their
names and the necessary fee at-
tending same are in the hands of
Hon. W. H. Arnold chairman of
Democratic central committee for
Miller county by or before the close
of day tomorrow.
Married:—At the residence of
Mr. and Mrs. Tupper in Fairview
last evening Mr. Q. S. Curtis of
New Lewisville Ark. and Mrs.
Nannie Webb of Queen City Tex.
Rev. Ernest Thompson officiating.
Dr. and Mrs. L. M. Rush were
present as “best friends" of the
contracting couple. The Texar-
kanian joins with other friends in
extending hearty congratulations
to the happy pair both of whom
are well known and highly esteemed
in this city.
Harry L. Baldwin a local freight
conductor on the Iron Mountain
railroad left yesterday for Buffalo
N. Y. where on Wednesday the
20th instant he will be united in
marriage to a charming young lady
of that city. The bridal couple will
return to Texarkana after a “brief
wedding tour” to take up their fu-
ture residence in our midst. The
groom is a deservedly popular
young man and his many friends
here will join us in congratulations
both for himself and his intended
bride.

We learn from Col. W. R. Kelley
our efficient postmaster that the
P'istoffice at TexarlAua will pass
under the control of the Civil Ser-
vice Commission on July Ist of this
year. He also informs us that free
mail delivery for Texarkana will go
into effect on or very soon after
that date. This is indeed welcome
news and will be greeted with uni-
versal appreciation by our citizens
of all classes who have so long and
eagerly awaited the institution of
this great postal convenience for
Texarkana and her people.

declined 10395 applications for in-
surance amounting to over $28-
000000. This shows that they are

CITY ORDINANCE.
An ordinance laying off a position
of the city of Texarkana Arkansas
as “Improvement District num-
ber one (1)” for the purpose of
constructing sewers in said dis-
trict.
Whereas ten and more resident
owners of real estate in the city of
Texarkana Arkansas and within
the territory hereinafter designat-
ed have petitioned the council to
take the necessary steps toward
the making of local improvements
by constructing sewers as provided
by law.
"Therefore in order that such lo-
cal improvements be made be it
enacted by the Council of the City
of Texarkana Arkansas:
Section 1 That all that portion
of the territory of the City of Tex-
arkana Arkansas embraced m the
iollowing lines to-wit:
Beginning upon State Line at
its entersection with Seventh Street
thence along Seventh Street East
to Hazel Street thence South
along Hazel Street to Sixth Street
. thence East on Sixth Street to
Beech Street thence on Beech
Street South to Forest Street
t hence on Forest Street West to
Laurel Street thence on Laurel
Street South to Broad Street
thence West on Broad Street to
Walnut Street thence South on
Walnut to Front Street thence
West on Front Street to State Line
Ave. thence on State line North to
place of beginning be and the same
is hereby laid off into an improve-
ment district for the purpose of
constructing Sewers therein: That
the lines aforesaid be and the
same are hereby designated as the
boundary of such district and that
the territory so embraced therein
shall be known and is hereby de-
signated as Improvement District
number one for the purpose of con-
structing Sewers of the City of
Texarkana Arkansas.
Section 2. That this ordinance
shall take effect and be in force
from and after its passage and all
ordinances in conflict with this or
(finance are hereby repealed and
the Recorder is hereby ordered
to publish this ordinance within
five days from its passage as re-
quired by law.
