P. P. HERESIES
The third party misnamed peo-
ple’s party as we have often said
is full of heresies. Its platform is
(made up partially of heresies
i and its leaders speakers writers
and office holders are saturated
with heresies. Below we extract a
few of these heresies for the public
consideration and ask Mr. J. N.
O Daniel if he can defend them:
P. P. Representatives in Congress
are introducing all sorts of bills for
t xtravagantappropriation of special
i lasses. Senator Peffer now has a
bill before the Senate asking an ap-
propriation of sixty-five million dol-
lars for the paupers of the United
States which according to statis-
tics would be SIOOO each for every
pauper in the land. If such legis-
lation could be secured what an in-
ducement it would be to pauperism
If such men as Peffer had control oi
this government they would bank-
rupt it in twenty-four hours. Not
many months ago this man intro-
duced a bill to loan the farmers ol
Indiana one hundred million dollars
and he with his colleague.
Senator Allen of Nebraska opposes
the passage of the Wilson tariff bill
because it takes the protective tar-
iff off the sugar beet industry of
Kansas. In the house of Congress
not many months ago out of tec
1 bird party members seven voted tc
increase the pensions of the federai
soldiers one hundred and ten mill
ion dollars and just the other daj
Congressman Davis a populist ol
Kansas introduced a bill in Con
gress asking an appropriation oi
fifty million dollars for Coxey’s army
< f tramps yet these are the fe!
lows who claim to be opposed to ali
c lass legislation and to extrava-
gance in government. They are
the fellows who holler themselves
hoarse about the tax-burdened
people and yet they seek to fasten
upon them greater burdens b>’ giv-
ing to certain classes and imprests
hundreds of millions of dollars
Such shameful mockery of ti ue
economy and reform should be
frowned down by every man who
loves honesty and consistency in all
men.
