You may always keep your eye
on the man who makes a practice
of ascribing base motives to his fel-
lows even in the ordinary affairs of I
lie. Such men will always bear i
witching as the baseness they see i
or think they see is merely a re-
flection of their own secret proinpt-
irgs and they see it as one sees his
image reflected from a mirror.
Tais is true politically as well as
personally.
In reply to the assertion that
“the Louisville Courier-Journal did
not like the Arkansas Democratic
p atform” it has been well said that
when said instrument was framed
Arkansas’ Democracy was neither
thinking nor acting for the likes or
dislikes of Kentucky journalists and
politicians. Arkansas is one of the
s ivereign states of the Union and
her people are sovereigns and they
do not take their Democracy as
prepared by Wall street magicians
and Kentucky statesmen.
There is no man so deaf to the
pleading of his friends or condernna-
t on of his neighbors as he who errs
knowingly and errs for gain. Where
a man does wrong unconsciously
and without mercenary motives it
is usually easy to convince and cure
him of his error. But when he deli-
berately defies public opinion once
and escapes adequate punishment
he becomes impervious to all milder
measures and can only be reached
by the most severe remedies applied
by a determined hand. It resembles
t le desperate disease which always
requires an equally desperate rem-
edy.
We publish today the second of
our New York fashion letters by
I ucy Carter the noted fashion
y riter whose edict on the prevail-
ing modes comes this week from
Saratoga giving prevailing styles
of fashion’s devotees at that fa-
mous summer resort to which flock
not only New York’s “Four hun-
dred” but the elite of metropolitan
social life from all over the Union.
The ladies will find much to interest
them in Miss Carter’s present let-
ter which traverses the realm of
prevailing styles touching upon
all interesting and important
I oints.
A young girl 17 years of old of
Van Alstyne Tex. the child of a
widowed mothercommitted suicide
on Tuesday of this week by hang-
i ig because the trust she had re-
posed in a recreant lover had been
1 asely betrayed and she herself
wantonly deserted by the man who
won but to betray her. The letter
left pinned to the bosom of her
Cress told the story of a love be
frayed an innocent girlish heart
broken and simple faith despised
by the wretch in whom the fond and
foolish child for she was little more
l ad t rusted more than the mother
who bore her. Such stories perhaps
the saddest pen can write or ton-
gue tell are only too frequent dif-
fering only in time circumstance
and place of happening.

The readers of this paper will be
I leased to learn that there is at
1 ast one dreadful disease that
s .'ience has been able to cure in all
i s stages and that is Catarrh.
I fall's Catarrh Cure is the only pos-
itive cure now known to the medi-
cal fraternity. Catarrh being a
constitutional disease requires a
c institutional treatment. Hall's
( atarrh cure is taken internally
acting directly upon the blood and
mucous surfaces of the system
thereby destroying the foundation
o ' the disease and giving the pa-
t ent strength by building up the

have so much faith in its curative
powers that they offer one hundred
dollars for any case that it fails to
