The “fast mail" came in from St.
Louis last night on time—9 o’clock.
It left St. Louis at 3 o’clock yester-
day morning making about 40 miles
an hour as far as Little Rock and
overtook No. 3. From Little Rock
here it is a slow train making all
stops.
We acknowledge a very pleasant
call this morning from Mr. Luthur
Benson the great temperance ora-
tor. He is unlike many who fight
whiskey—uses little or no invective
but appeals to reason and tells of
the terrible effects of the poison.
Go out and hear him at the opera
house tonight.
The DeKalb News in the hands
of Mr. Fay. L. Crossett as editor
and proprietor has greatly improv-
ed and is now one of the neatest
and best weeklies we receive. He
is a good printer and most deserv-
ing young gentleman and we trust
the business men of DeKalb will ac-
cord him a liberal patronage.
In my announcement of the Lu-
thur Benson lecture it was said that
the Monday night lecture would be
to men only. This was because the
house was so small. But as the
lecture is to be at the opera house
ladies are very cordially invited.
We look for a full house so come
early. Admission If) cents all of
which goes to the speaker.
J. T. Jenkins.
CIRCUIT COURT NOTES.
Today the Circuit court is engag-
ed in the trial of Chas. Davis charg-
ed with stealing a pistol from the
Pacific Express Co.
Saturday jury brought in verdict
acquitting N. T. McGee of unlaw-
fully living with a negro woman.
Court will likely continue all of
this week though it may get
through and adjourn by Friday.
Judge Hears remained here over
Sunday. He pushes court business
as much as possible which shortens
the terms and lessens the expense
as much as possible. He makes an
expeditious safe and conscientious
officer.
THE JACOBS STOCK SOLD
This morning at 11:15 o'clock the
Joe Jacobs stock of gents furnishing
goods was sold at auction by depu-
ty sheriff C. 15. Bramble. It had
been attached by creditors was or-
dered sold by Circuit Judge Hearn.
Attachments footed up about $16-
000 and the stock invoiced at about
SIBOOO. The bidding was quite
spirited for a while and was finally
knocked down to Mr. 11. A. Jacobs
of Novasota Texas (the father of
Mr. Jos. Jacobs) for II 1550.
Immediately after the sale Mr.
Joe Jacobs publicly denounced at-
tempt to extort money from his
father by certain parties who aslo-
ed him “what he would give him
not to bid against them."

WILL REPEAT THE PROGRAMME
ON
MONDAY
With Several New Attractions!
Those who attended last Monday's Great Remnant Sale could readily
see (with standing room at a premium so to speak) that it wasutterly
impossible for us to wait on the crowd consequently hundreds of custom-
ers were compelled to go away without having’ a chance to get what they
wanted and very naturally felt disappointed. In order to show that we
fully appreciated their attendance on that occasion we will place on sale
Monday Next December 3
over SOI) Remnants of the Choicest Styles in Dress Goods Silks Velvets
Linens Carpets Sheeting etc. at 50 cents for every dollar’s worth. The
price of each piece will be marked in plain figures so that every custom-
er can in a manner wait on themselves.
As these sales means a loss of several hundreds of dollars to us
(which we sacrifice cheerfully to unload the remnants) we will be com-
pelled to sell FOR CASH ONLY.
