The holiday trade is quite lively-
now. The Bible says “it is more
blessed to give than to receive." Be
generous to the little folks re-
membering you were once a child.
A drunkard is a loathsome pitia-
ble object. We see men on every
side throwing themselves away
drinking the "fiery poison.” How
long before Texarkana will be rid
of the monster evil?
The Inter-State Christmas fair to
be given by the colored people will
be held in the Henry building op-
posite the Benefield hotel. Those
who have it in charge tell us that it
promises to be a success.
Night before last somebody tried
to work a fake “train robbery" as
having occurred near Texarkana
but it failed as the Associated Press
enquired into the mattter and dis-
covered that there was nothing in
it.

To make the trips on time the driv-

a lively rate and it is requested
that the cars not be held; let all
passengers be ready to get aboard
as soon as t he cars stop.
A laughable “hold up” occurred
early last night out toward College
Hill. A party composed of Messrs
McLure Plant Crank and a lady
were enroute home when it is
stated that George Murphy stopped
them and ordering “hands up" se-
cured Illi in cash from Plant whom
lie alleged had beaten him out of

An Irishman calling on an under-
taker for a collin for a man that
had been sick for some time was
asked if he was dead. “No" said
the Irishman “but the doctor said
lie would be dead before lie could
get the collln ready." Tlie under-
taker remarked “you had better
wait till he dies. Doctors cannot
always toll how long a patient will
live" The Irishman replied:
“Faith don't you suppose the doc-
tor knows what he has given him?"
