“We believe that the rank and file
of the Democratic party should at
once assert themselves in the Dem-
ocratic party on record in favor of
the immediate restoration of the
free and unlimited coinage of gold
and silver at the present legal ratio
ot 16 to 1 as such coinage existed
prior to 1873 without waiting for
the aid or consent of any other na-
tion; such gold and silver coin to be
a full legal tender for all debt's pub-
lic and private."
The New Orleans Item says: The
silver jingle that comes from Illinois
is of a kind t» make the goldbugs
sick. It has the true ring about it.
Cleveland and Wall street are sure
to be laid out in the coming election
and the country will be infinitely
the better for it.
A new and powerful ship destroy-
ing gun has been invented intended
for coast defense only is thirty feet
long and is capable of dropping a
shell containing five hundred pounds
of nitro-glycerine and a man-of-war
ten miles out at sea. The new
smokeless gun powder is the explos-
ive used.
The Fort Smith Daily Democrat
under the splendid editorial manage-
ment of brother Rainey Williams
has forged to the front until it is
now emphatically tub paper of that
city. We are glad to see him doing
so well. As a friend and advocate
of free silver coinage few writers
can equal him.
.J
One of the best arguments in fa-
vor of silver is: That all the big
bankers and speculators who are
interested in a contracted currency
one that can be cornered are all
fighting silver. Even the London
speculators held a meeting one day
last week to protest against the. sil-
ver movement in the United States.
THE LAND OF PROMISE
Says the Manufacturers Record:
"TheSouth is undergoing a com-
plete change. Old things are pas-
sing away. It is entering upon a
period of its history entirely differ-
ent from any that it has faced in
the past. It can no longer beprov-
inced in its aims and wot ks no lon-
ger cub on from the rest of the
world and a country unto itself.
The tendency of the world’s busi-
ness is Southward. Capital and
population will come this way and
with the incoming thousands whose
faces are already turned to this land
of promise will come many changes
and many new conditions Out of
all this if the people of the South
are wise will come even a better and
a broader civilization than we have
had." .

The readers of this paper will be
vleased to learn that there is at
east one dreaded disease that
science has been able to cure in all
its stages and that is catarrh. Halls
Catarrh Cure is the only cure now
known to the medical fraternity.
Catarrh being a constitutional di-
sease requires a constitutional
treatment. Hall’s Catarrh Cure is
taken internally acting directly up-
on the blood and mucous system
thereby destroying the foundation
of the disease and giving the pa-
tient strength by building up the
constitution and assisting nature in
doing its work. The proprietors
have so much faith in its curative
powers that they offer one hundred
dollars for any erse that it fails to
cure. Send for list of Testimonials.
