Mayor Turner and the city coun-
cil of the West side are overseeing
the sodding of the city hall lots
and they tell us they will plant many-
trees there this winter and will
have a beautiful grove growing
there in two or three years. We
ask them to procure cottan wood
trees as they are the f.istest grow-
ers we Know of and can stand
rough treatment and are less lia-
ble the first year of transplanting.
The suit of the foreign bondhold-
ers against the street railroad com-
pany was decided today iu Miller
circuit court. By the decision of
the court the sale of the road was
confirmed but the three town lots
of the old company in Fairview
were made subject to tlie foreign
bondholders. We hope now that
the title to the street railroad is
made good that Mr. Whitney will
go head and put in the electric sys-
tem as promised.
The theatrical season here the
coining season promises to be one
of profit to the manager and to the
troupes playing. Manager Ehrlich
has a good list of attractions and
when the weather cools down some
our people will go cut. Our city is
made up of a fun loving population
one that looks to be entertained
and one that is willing and ready to
give up the cash when an attrac-
tion comes here that promises to
fill the bill of their expectation.
We wrote it “perspective maps”
of Texarkana yesterday and tlie
proof reader overlooked it aud the
adjuster of the movables brought
it out in tne paper “prospective
maps.” We see the Call has the
same kind ol proof readers or print
ers aud it speaks this morning of
tlie ladies Floral Society having a
lot of “prospective maps” printed
for free distribution ai the Atlanta
Exposition. We make the correc-
tion knowing that the. ladies of the
Floral Society have had a good
laugh at the mistake.
Josh Whealdon the photogra-
pher. was employed to go to Inger-
soll yesterday to make photographs
ol the depot aud platforms. A
young man a passenger of the 'Jot
ton Belt had a linger cut off there
by the wheels of tlie cars and he is

men 1 that he got off the train at
Ligp'-soll on lhe south side that
the. reason h" got off on that side
which is the opposite side from the
depot was because it presented a
smooth surface that he fell under
th train because of the rough-
lie. sos the ground etc. The pho-
tographs are to be used iu court to
show that tlie young man was mis
taken as to the platform landings.
An amusing incident happened on
the stage last night in Hie 3rd act.
It was a parlor scene. Richard
Barker was shown in his dressing
gown and after saying his piece
and divesting himself of his gown
lie called for Brown ins man serv
. at to take tin- same and at the.
same time take up tlie cue but
Brown was no where to be found in
the wings and a repeated calling
did not bring him. The actor
clinched his fist and said something
that sounded like a smothered
“damlt" and gave the signal for the
curtain to come down. A genuine
I tter was heard all over tlie homie.
Brown was soon found and the
curtain went up again and the play
went on smoothly. Sucli tilings
happen once iu a. while on the best
regulated stages and with the best
of companies.

It is rumored on the street that
the Iron Mountain and the T. &P.
railroads are unjustly discriminat-
ing against Texarkana in the mat-
ter of rates for the proposed Mon-
roe Stave Co. about to locate here.
As we get it these roads want said
stave company to locate at either
Fulton or Longview and if so locat-
ed offer them same rates as offer-
ed lumbermen; say they can not
give this rate for Texarkana. The
Iron Mountain also asks excessive
switching rates from the stave
company we. learn. If all this is
true our people want to know it
and if these two rdads (which re-
ceive thousands of dollars in freight
every month from Texarkana)
keep up such unjust and alto-.
gether unfair discrimination our
merchants and businessmen will see
to it that other lines get their busi-
ness. We certainly expect these'
and other roads to deal right by
Texarkana in helping to seebre this 1
big enterprise and not force it to
go to Shreveport or elsewhere on
account of their not doing this. We
ask Messrs. Townsend and Mesller
freight agents for the two roads to
straighten out this matter at once.
