Caeser Zanona who shot at Joe
McCullough or rather let his pistol
go off in the air to frighten him
was examined yesterday before
Mayor Turner and placed under a
1300 bond. The diffiulty grew out
of Zanona charging McCollough 50
cents for supper the latter com-
plaining that he only paid 35 cents
heretofore. Zanona told him if the
proprietor said 35 cents he would
give him the change which he did
afterwards on being told to do so by
the proprietor. When change was
returned McCullough began to
abuse Zanona and the fight was the
sequence.
Mr. Bremen of Martindale —
left this morning for Bloomburg
Tex. He and two sisters stopped at
II itel Brunswick night before last;
he got up early yesterday morning
and went out after some whisky
which he got and it . caused the
train and his sisters to leave him
behind. After getting left he got
on a “whiz" and told Mr. Tierney
of the hotel that somebody “touch
ed” him for SSB; found that this
sum had been taken from his pocket
on awaking yesterday afternoon
late down in the railway yards. He
left for Bloomburg a sader if not
wiser man acknowledging the evils
of intemperance.
Texarkana may well feel proud of
adding Hon. Neil W. Carothers of
Chattanooga Tenn. to its list of
notable men. Mr. Carothers has
long been a leading lawyer not only
in Chattanooga but over the entire
State of Tennesse. He has written
several papers on the financial con-
dition of the country for the press
that have caused many to pause
and think. He is the author of the
“Fifty-Cent Dollar" a book of over
a hundred pages written on the
currency and coin of our country.
It is one of the ablest books favora-
ble to silver yet issued gotten up
in good style and the diction is per-
fect. Mr. Carothers has come here
for the purpose of associating him-
self in the practice of law with
Messrs. J. D. Cook and Minor Wal-
lace Mr. Wallace being related to
him through marrktge. We have
met the gentleman and we must
say we were more than pleased with
his address and easy manners and
we believe he will make himself pop
ular from the s* art. We certainly
wish for him success in this his new
home.
