Anti-Toiine is now being used on
horses for lock jaw. We hope some
of it will be given to Cleveland or
Congress and have them open their
mouths on "Cuban belligerency.
The small big(?) dogs are still
barking at Ben Tillman's speech.
Tillman has the nerve to say what
he feels and is no “boot licker” or
patronage beggar and when he
wants to tell a man he is a thief he
does not call it kleptomania but
•pits out the whole thing at once.
While the Illinois Democrats were
trying to ship Potter Palmer to
Germany as minister the Presi-
dent it is said put aboard the ship
one Uhl of Michigan. It was no
doubt a hard job to flatten out
Brother Palmer's aspirations in this
direction but Cleveland is a man of
surprises and he uses his appointive
lightning where least expected.
“Say Bub what is the name of
this town?” asked a red-faced man
of a boy whom he met near Ghios
corner.
“Well mister I am a stranger
here” said the boy “but I heard a
fellow just now say to a chap that
It was 'Mud.'"
The florid complexioned fellow
closed his pink eyes for a minute
and said “I guess so."
The Tyranny of the Desk.
We will suppose that your occu-
pation is sedentary—that you are
chained so to speak to the desk in
some counting house or perhaps to
the loom in some vast mill where
you are compelled to labor from
morning till night. Sunday is your
only day of relaxtion. You return
home every evening wearied men-
tally and bodily. Your health and
•trength begin to fail. What will
most effectually recuperate your
vital energy? The weight of evidence
points to no other conclusion than
that Hostetter's Stomach Bitters is
your »afest most reliable sheet
anchor. Use it persistently and
your system will soon regain its
pristine vigor. Every function will
receive a healthful impulse. There
is no remedy to equal the Bitters
for nervousness and want of sleep
dyspepsia constipation and bilious-
ness. Tt averts and remedies all
forms of malarial disease and is a
preventive of rheumatism and
neuralgia.

Will be the Benefit for the Ladies of
Episcopal Church.
On Wednesday Feb. 12th the
Ladies of the Episcopal Church will
entertain their many friends at
Harmony Hall with a “Bundle
Party." Although new to Texar-
kanians it has proven very success-
ful in other cities and it is safe to
predict that it will here.
The price of admission will be a
bundle worth not less than twenty-
five cents and as much more as
you like. These will be auctioned
off to the highest bidder and will
afford no end of amusement and
every one is assured a royal good
time. McCann’s symphony orches-
tra will discourse sweet melodious
strains of music such as the only
“McCansky"can. Refreshments will
be served by the young ladies. ts

BOWIE 'POPPIES ”
It is Rather Early for Flowers But
Still They Do Bloom Only to
Wither and Die.
Yesterday was a big day at New- 1
Boston; it was a day for your
"whiskers.”
The Populists of Bowie county
assembled from the forks of the
creek and some were there even
from Deutschman’s canal.
The “boys' hold these meetings
evetv two years but as it bur's no j
one and gives them a chance to 1
blow off we should not grumble.
To say the ticket they have noin- .
inated is a strong one would be
telling a whopper for there is not 1
a man on it but who has been a ’
candidate for the past dozen years 1
or more.
Let us analyze the ticket —the
county part of it: There is Geo. f. 1
Todd; he has been running for of-
flee ever since the war ended 30 <
years ago and if he has ever run '
under the wire ahead of any one we <
do not remember it. George wants ;
to be district judge and would
make a good one but —he will nev-
er get there by the “long hail”
route.
The two Elliott Brothers—E. P.
Elliott for floater and W. R. Elliott
for tax collector. They have burn-
ed midnight oil at Populist meet-
ings for years trying to get office
but the election has always gone
against them.
E. D. Meredith a preacher with
a penchant for office and a mighty
good man. He has been beaten
twice for representative but we
find him trying it again. He is a
long horse seemingly but his
strides are short in a race.
P. .1. Holstein wants to be district
clerk. He is a clever roan and has
been a standing candidate for many
years for several different offices
but he is no runner and will be dis-
tanced at the first quarter and rul-
ed off the track.
R. J. Hairston for county judge.
This is a clever man and when he
run in his proper class (Democracy)
he never got beat but he deserted
and went over to the “scrub class”
and his racing qualities since that
time have not amounted to even
keeping a score card.
N. E. Lawrence has asked for
several offices both from the Dem-
ocrats and Pops but he always got
left and always will. He is a nice
man and we haven’t a thing
against him only we want to see
him beaten. He is in the race for
treasurer.
T. C. Morriss is down again for
Sheriff. Morriss’ mouth has water-
ed for this place for 10l these many
years. He is a clever man used to
be a county commissioner from New
Boston and was one that voted
against the interest of Texarkana
every time we wanted a bridge
built or a plank put across a branch
for a foot crossing. He is sectional
in his feelings and for this reason
Texarkana generally gives him a
good vote to stay out of office.
There are two more on the ticket
S. N. Tidwell and Jim Wiley. Tid-
well has run several times for of-
fice; Wiley we know little about.
Jim Davis (Cyclone) has been in-
structed for for Congress. Jim is
a good runner and if he don’t get
there he manages to get pacified
before he becomes troublesome af-
ter the races are all over.
We think the ticket the weakest
one ever unsheathed upon the pub-
lic and the Democracy of Bowie
county in an unorganized state can
beat it bad.

Gladness Comes
With a better understanding of the |
transient nature of the many phys-
ical ills which vanish More proper ef-
forts—gen tie efforts pleasant efforts—-
rightly directed. There is comfort in
the knowledge that so many forms of
sickness are not due to any actual dis-
ease but simply to a constipated condi-
tion of the system which the pleasant
family laxative Syrup of Figs prompt-
ly removes. That is why it is the only
remedy with millions of families and is
everywhere esteemed so highly by all
who value good health. Its beneficial
effects are due to the fact that it is the
one remedy which promotes internal
cleanliness without debilitating the
organs on which it acts. It is therefore
all important in order to get its bene-
ficial effects to note when you pur-
chase that yon have the genuine article
which is manufactured by the California
Fig Syrup Co. only and sold by all rep-
utable druggists.
If in the enjoyment of good health
and the system is regular then laxa-
tives or other remedies are not needed.
If afflicted with any actual disease one
may be commended to the most skillful
physicians but if in need of a laxative
then one should have the best and with
the well-informed everywhere Syrup of
Figs stands highest and is most largely
used and gives most general satisfaction.
