We wired to Little Rock last
night as to how the Sebastian
county election for U. S. Senator
went the answer came back "have
heard nothing yet.”
Deputy Marshal Casey has taken
off his buttons and star and donned
citizens clothes. He is electioneer-
ing though to put ’em back on
again with a higher title.

Mr. J. J. (Dick) Towery is having
himself a house built on the Texas
side near the Christian Church. He
tells us he will move his family here
next week and make the city his
home. We welcome you Dick as a
citizen. _
They are spending too much mon-
efin massing troops at El Paso to
put down the thugs. Why don't
they tell them to get up and get
like they would any other tramp?

"Our Chief" Mr. J. W. Garder
came in yesterday evening after a
successful week spent in the coun-
try among his subscribers. He re-
ceived many dollars on back dues
and made many new readers for the
Tixarkanian.
Two young men engaged as pea-
nut vendors on the Cotton Belt rail-
road were arrested yesterday for
giving short change and otherwise
fleecing passengers on the Cotton
Belt train. Justice Haywood put
one of them under bond.
Mr. Willie Wyse of DeKalb Tex-
as was shot four times yesterday
evening and a telegram to Dr.
Read of this place for his services
did not state who shot him or give
any of the particulars. Mr. Wyse
is a nephew of Mrs. Read.
Manager Hughes of the W. U. T.
Co. bought himself a razor and
undertook to shave himself yester-
day’ When we called at the tele-
graph office he was bleeding pro-
fusely while the boys were applying
alum to his bleeding wounds.
Two candidates sprouted over in
Texas last night. They have not
paid us a visit yet and we have not
found out whether they are joking
about running or in dead earnest.

Mr. Deitz who left here a few
days ago in company with his fa-
ther who came here trom-Ohio on

the remains of’his father back and
and shipped them to Ohio the old
gentleman having taken sick and
died at the Springs.
Tacks have gone up since the
campaign opened up. Casey has
used a ton Crenshaw a barrel and
those three candidates for Recorder
bought all the tacks in town and
are using spikes to tack up their
cards. Sam Solinsky uses paste-
says it makes them stick. See?
Milton Royles’ new play 'Friends’
has had an unprecedented run in
all the large cities. The scene of
Ihe play is laid in New York City.
A prima dona of the opera a young
pianist and a young poef’are mixed
up in a love affair. The plot is a
good one and the play is quite in-
teresting.
Henry Cook a butcher of this
place who was an advocate of pro-
hibition on the Texas side and who
worked hard for that ticket is now
facing Uncle Sam for dealing in the
"red eyed” monster contrary to the
way he voted. Consistency it
seems is a jewel that does not fig-
ure in the collections of Mr. Cook.

Mr. J. J. Cody superintendent of
the Pintsch Gas Works has the
machinery all up and Is now run-
ning his pipes to the railroad
tracks There will be seven lines
laid all convenient to the different
roads here and by next week the
gas will be ready to be served to
the different roads centering here.
In a wagon load of fish put on the
market yesterday was one devoid
of mouth. He seemed as fat and
healthy as the balance of the catch
and those who examined it say it
must have taken its food through
its gills. It was sold for 25 cents to
a colored man who said he would
have him for breakfast this morn-
ing. _ _
Three trains came in yesterday
over the Iron Mountain road loaded
with steel for the K. C. P. &G.
We noticed that the cars were all
stable ones and wondered If it
would not be additional trouble to
unload the steel from these cars:
but was told not by a yard man.
He said the cars are unloaded by
chains and a locomotive and that
25 cars could be emptied in a day by
a train crew alone.
The Western Union is putting us
a big copper wire between Galves-
ton and New York via this place
which will be cut in here. It can
be worked quadruplex that Is four
men can send different messages
over it and four receive at the same
time from the transmital and re-
ceiving office. This wire will do much
toward dispatching the business of
the states through which it passes.
Mayor P. A. Turner J. M. Talbot
and Chas. S. Todd left for Austin
yesterday to argue the separate
court bill of Texarkana Texas be-
fore the Supreme Court. These
gentlemen are all good lawyers- all
good speakers and when they get
done with the Dallas man who is
employed on the opposite side he
will know that he and the New Bos-
ton contingent are not in it a little
wee bit The case comes up Mon-
day and our people will learn all
about it by Tuesday we hope.
The C. E. Society of the Christain
church were tendered a social on
Friday night by Mr. and Mrs. H.
M. Zinc at the residence of Mr.
E. D. Lingold on the East side.
Quite a number of the Endeavorers
and a few of their friends were in
attendance. Mrs. Zinc proved an
amiable hostess and was the
recipient of profuse expressions by
those present for the evenings
enjoyment. At a late hour tasteful
refreshments were served which
proved an enjoyable part of the
evening’s pleasures.
