HARROD WITHDRAWS.
His Letter to the Democracy Full of
Patriotism and Party Fealty.
Hon. Janies H. Harrod above his
own signature has given out to the
Arkansas press his withdrawal card
as a candidate for Governor. It is
short but to the point and conies
from the man who loves his party
though that party has just admin-
ist< red a chastisement to him and
his fealtv partake of that nature
the child bears to a parent after
being drawn over the maternal
knee and the slipper applied—the
smart hurts but the instinct of love
remains. Mr. Harrod is still the
dutiful child to his party and he
will always remain so as long as the
Democratic cock continues to crow
at the masthead of the Democratic
press. Here is his card:
To the Democrats of Arkansas:
1 am no longer a candidate for
governor. The platform upon whicn
I stood as a candidate and the prin-
ciples that I expect to always advo
cate are well known to all. My po-
sition has not met the approval of
the people and the office to which I
aspire is their property to be given
as they prefer. The future alone
can determine whether my position
was best tor the country. So far
as I am concerned I have no doubt
that time will vindicate the justice
of my position and the correctness
of the platform upon which 1 stood
as a candidate. No language at
my command can express how
grateful I feel to all who have looked
with favor upon my aspirations. In
retiring from the contest I desire
to say that though defeated I am
none the less a loyal Democrat
proud of my party and its glorious
history and that I will stand ever
ready to labor for its supremacy in
the township county State and
nation. Very truly
James H. Harrod.
Sick stomach means sick man (or
woman).
Why not be well?
Sick stomach comes from poor
food poor nourishment; means
poor health poor comfort. Shaker
Digestive Cordial means health and
a well stomach.
If we could examine our stomach
we would understand why it is that
so little will put it out of order.
But unless we are doctors we
never see our stomach. We only
feel it. We would feel it less if we
took Shaker Digestive Cordial.
Shaker Digestive Cordial makes
your stomach digest all the nourish-
ing food you eat relieves all symp-
toms of indigestion acts as a tonic
and soon makes you well and strong
again.
The more you take the less you
will feel of your stomach.

any serious consequences from an

THE ROSE BUD CLUB
The Largest Crowd Yet Assembled
Out at Spring Lake Park.
The Rose Bud Club composed of
the adolescents -of our city from
the best families under the leader-
ship of Frank Smith. gave an en-
joyable dance at Spring Lake Park
on Friday night.
The street cars had ail they could
ido in accommodating the great
crowds that applied for passage
from the city. In oue instance the
car going east had to be turned
' from the regular run and put back
to the park in erder to relieve the
burden then on the summer car.
After the load was taken off the
summer car and transferred to No.
8 the reporter counted just 42 re-
| maining on the same and you can
imagine the jamb on the cars.
By 9 o’clock there were scattered
over the park two or three hundred
of our very best citizens and on the
dancing platform many were dan-
cing.
The night was very chilly and
those who came there without
wraps looked the picture of dis-
tress and on this account many
left for home before eleven and by
half past the last car left the
grounds.
Some enterprising young man
had erected himself an ice cream
and cold soda water stand near the
dancing stand and notwithstand-
ing the prompter for the dance
would call out at the end of each
dance to promenade to the ice
cream stand and treat your part-
ner the reporter did not notice a
single treat though there might
have been a spasmodic case now and
then. We heard an adolencenteer
say to his adolecentress that it the
youth who was dispensing icicles
would change to hot lemonade he
would set ’em up and she smiled her
assent to his generosity.
I The band engaged for the occa-
sion was composed of four “cullud
persons” and they tortured some
right good dance music out of a
base violin two small fiddles
and a clarionet.
We noticed many people setting
around the large oak trees whose
names have escaped our memory
and who went out more as a com-
pliment to the young people than
to take part in the testivities of the
evening.
Some thirty couples only partici-
pated in the dance and we omit
names as the list is too long and
too incomplete as furnished us- to
publish for we find many names on
the list of parties whom we know
were away from home while we
know of parties being there whose
names do not appear at all.
Mr. and Mrs. Dau T. Leary Mrs.
Wisdom Mrs. Paul Jones and Mrs.
John Taylor were the chaperons
and they had their eyes on the Mas-
ters and Misses during the entire
evening.
Mr. Whitley was on the grounds
and aboard the cars during the eve-
ning and kept his service up to the
best standard.
We hope the young people will
have a better eveningas to weather
for their next party and that noth-
ing will mar the occasion.

poison ot malaria in air or water
