to attend the Democratic conven
tlon is fixed at $22.20. The gentle-
manly agent says this means that
he will take either silver gold
nickles or national bank notes. If

Yesterday was ladies day at Kir-
by Beach and the reports come to
us that many ladies were out en-
joying'the cooling waves. There
were many gentlemen present too
but thev all had sponsors and were
on their good behavior.
When the gang gets back from
Little Rock thev will bring some
more McKinley buttons todistribute
to the rank and file. The pie dish
out at the Rock will be made use of
by the delegation in having banners
printed (?) and paying for oil burnt
at the midnight meetings.
The city editor rode behind Dr.
Grant's big bay yesterday in a
trotting race on the Boulevard
against the Madden bay. We did
not hold the lines the Doctor doing
that part and so well did he man-
age his “baby’’ that we won the
race and threw’ sand all over Mad-
den’s little bay trotter. The Doctor
has a great 2:25 roadster.
Manager Whitley was asked la. t
night in a crowded car going
toward the park how he stood on
the money question and he said he
was neither a silver man or a gold-
bug but a believer in the nimble
nickle. The manager explained by
saying that this was the only kind
of coin he handled now and he telt
like ne would be offering an insult
to the only kind of money he took
in if he felt otherwise.
Mrs. W. H. Johnson of Dallas
Texas editor of the Kings Messen-
ger will be in Texarkana tomorrow
(July 2nd) and desires toaddress the

city at 5 p. m. in the State Line
Methodist church. Mrs. Johnson is
travelling and working in the inter-
est of a Home —a Refuge—for fal-
len women that is now being erect-
ed at Dallas. Let all the good
women attend this meeting.
The committee oppointed to look
after the sprinkling of streets and
the fire department has placed
Capt. A. S. Blythe iu charge until
thev make permanent arrange-
ments with some one and have it
ratified at the next council meeting.
The Captain is an excellent mail
for the place and we hope he will
put in a bid and become a perma
nent fixture as we know he will
give the work his individual atten-
tion.
An outing party has been planned
for this afternoon. Manager Whit-
ley tells us he has been asked to be
on hand at 7:15 with enough cars
to carry out a party of 60 who will
take their lunch baskets and have
supper at the park. Those living
on the East side will gather at Col.
T. E. Webber's on Waulnut street
and take cars at the Schuster curve;
those on the West side at Dr. J. W.
Talbot's on Maple street. There
will be music mirth and song and
plenty to eat.
Alderman John Carmichael said
to the reporter this mornnig: “Will
you please tell the Call men through
your colums that I as chairman of
the street committee have not the
power to cross over in Arkansas and
repair bridges. Mr Carmichael says
the bridge the Call complained of is
on Broad street and all of it rest in
this state. He also said the West
side renewed it the last time and he
did not propose to fix it now. The
crossing needs looking after by some
one there is no mistake in this and
we hope it will be fixed.
The reporter spent an hour at
the Park last night and was agree
ably surprised to see many elegant
ladies enjoying the cooling breeze
of an outing. “Little Eva” Hill
the snake charmer was out and
gave a recitation and sang a song.
She is certainly a prodigy. She
looks to be a child of six years old
has childish ways until you address
her and then you can hardly realize
you are talking to a child but a
matured woman. The reporter had
quite a chat with the Miss and the
conversation never lagged for she
would introduce subjects to talk
about which was really surprising
in one so young. She is with a
museum here and they say she is a
veritable snake charmer entering
a den of snakes and handling them
like they were strings or so many
whip-cords.
