aside as "Texarkana Day.” Let all
go who can and give our sister city

dollars as an educator and we
would like to see a big turn out of
our people.
To-morrow night every Democrat
who has Miller county’s interest at
heart is wanted at the East side
city hall. Both Howie and Miller
county democrats should rally to
the standard of Hi to 1 and show to
the world that Texarkana will do
its part in supporting Bryan and
Sewall in the coming struggle.

A Texarkana girl' went to her
pastor a few days ago and told him
she was hopelessly in love with a
young man and wanted to know
what she should do about it. "Oh
go and get you a "bike” said the
good man and she can now be seen
riding out perfectly cured of her
infatuation. Young men should
cry down the wheel.
The fire service committee met
yesterday and awarded the contract
for carrying the hose carriage and
sprinkling Broad street to Captain
A. S. Blythe the price paid being
$(>5.00 in money per month. The
committee made a good deal and
was fortunate in securing the ser-
vices of Captain Blythe. We hope
the relations between the council
and the Captain will be unbroken
in pleasantness and understanding.
Editor J. W. Gardner took a run
over to Shreveport this morning
and left the city editor with the
news department in control. It is
hard to get up a good readable pa-
per. when one has only a limited
time to get on the streets to search
for such news as is happening. We
shall expect the editor to take ob-
servations on his trip and when he
returns give our readers a history
of Shreveport and the country
along the line.
The Spiritualists we learn have
agreed to give a series of public
services at Spring Lake park pro-
vided the proper staging and seat-
ing accommodations are arranged
for those who may wish tq attend.
We ask that they be given a show-
ing as many of our people are anx-
ious to know and learn all there is
in the spirit world. Give us the
dates the first seance will be had
and we will furnish the calcium
lights for the occasion.
Cant. John H. Hunter of the
Texarkana Delinting Company has
returned from his first trip at cot-
ton seed buying. The Captain has
a new territory opened up to him
since last season by the extension
of the Texarkana & Ft. Smith rail-
road into Louisiana and we know
he will keep plenty of cotton seed
on hand for the many presses and
gins cinfined in the company’s plant
at this place. The Captain reports
cotton prospects good but says
corn will not be plentiful.
Prof. David B. Morgan a cele-
brated veternary surgeon is here
late of Swansea Wales and he
speaks of locating here for a short
time. We ha/ve met him and must
say we are pleased with him and
hope he will locate here as a central
operating station. Should he make
up his mind to locate here he will
announce the fact through this pa-
per. We find him with a full port-
folio of recommendations as to his
ability in treating the lower animal
kingdom. He will perhaps deliver a
lecture here on Saturday night.
Joel Roberson is just back from
the populist convention at Little
Rock and he says the delegation up
there have made up their mind to
put out a full ticket and to send
delegates to St. Louis with instruc-
tions to endorse Bryan provided he
will swallow the populist platform.
He said many speeches were made
by those present and they were all
in the same groove they wanted a
State ticket and was willing to en-
dorse Bryan provided he would get
on their platform. Mr Roberson
is a populist but he is away ahead
of those fellows who ad-
vocate Bryans stulifying himself of
stepping from one platform to an-
other just for the sake ot catching
votes. The populists believe in free
coinage of silver this plank in their
platform is paramount to all others
and if they can get this one engraf-
ted in our laws it should be as much
glory as they should hope to win at
one time. We belieye if we can
elect Bryan and get free silver other
reforms will follow. Mr. Roberson
and Vogel returned before an ad-
journment was had and they are
not fully posted as to the outcome
of the convention. We shall hope
that the populists will see it to
their advantage to endorse Bryan
and help elect him.
The Populists at Little Rock
have sent an uninstructed delega-
tion to St. Louis. The following
members were selected: J. R. Sov-
ereign Thos. Fletcher W. S. Mor-
gan A. W. Files Isaac McCracken
and J. O. A. Bush.
