FUSION AT LAST COMPLETE.
Follow.nor the St. Liuis conven-
tion that nominated Bryan and
Watson there seemed to be serious
obstacles in the way of a union of
Populists and Democrats on .single
electoral tickets. But with a com-
mon object in view It was inevitable
that they- should come together
and as the campaign nears its close
it is found that fusion has been
effected in every state where a com-
bination of forces might result in a
victory for Bryan. In twenty-seven
states fusion has been agreed upon
with division of electors between
the parties as follows:
California—Democrats 5; Popu-
lists 4.
Colorado —Democrats 2; Po; u i>ts
1; silver 1.
Connecticut—Democrats 5; Popu-
lists 1.
Idaho—Democrats 2; Populists 1.
Illinois—Democrats 20; Populists
4
Indiana—Democrats 10; Populists
5
lowa—Democrats 10; Populists 3.
Kansas—The ten electors are all
Democrats but they are pledged to
vote for the candidate for Vice-
President who has the best chance
of being elected.
Kentucky—Democrats 11; Popu-
lists 2.
Louisiana--Deinocrats 4; Popu-
lists 4.
Michigan—Democrats 10; Popu-
lists 4.
Minnesota—Democrats 4: Popu-
lists 4; silver Republicans 1.
Missouri—Democrats 13; Populists
4.
Montana—Democrat 1; Populist
1; silver Republican 1.
Nebraska—Democrats 4; Popu-
lists 4.
New Jersey —Democrats 9; Popu-
lists 1.
North Carolina—Democrats 5;
Populists 5; silver Republican 1.
North Dakota—The three Popu-
list electors have been endorsed by
the Democrats.
Ohio —Democrats IS: Populist* .">
Oregon—The tour Populist elec-
tors have been endorsed by the
Democrats.
Pennsylvania —Democrats 28;
Populists 4.
South Dakota—Democrats 2: Pop-
ulist 2. •
Utah—Democrat 1: Populist 1:
silver Republican 1.
Washington—Democrats 2; Popu-
lists 2.
West Virginia- Detm crats 4;
Populists 2.
Wisconsin Democrat* !>: Popu-
lists 3.
The above list includes only such
states in which fusion thought nec-
essary to win by the Democrats.
Now that a perfect understanding
between the silver Democrats Pop-
ulists and silver Republicans is had
it is safe to say that a great major-
ity of these states have been aban-
doned by Mark Hanna as lost to
him entirely. It will take him and
all the campaign boodle he can
raise and hard work to wrest any
one ot these states from the Demo-
cratic column. The Democratic
party is in better fighting trim
this year than any year since the
war and we believe a sweeping
victory will be ours.
The Republicans claim Kentucky
by 3000. This is figuring away be-
low their usual way of doing busi-
iness. They should claim it by 30-
000 by all means for they will be
disappointed any way in the long
run. We claim Kentucky for Bryan
by 15000 and will bet a ginger snap
we are nearer the mark than the
Republicans. Come on Ben with
your "snap.”
When a man owns a blooded
horse he is always careful of its
health. He looks after its diet and
is particular that its feeding shall
be regular and right. While he is
doing this it is likely as not that he
is himself suffering from some dis-
ease or disorder. When the trouble
gets so bad that be cannot work
he will begin to give himself the
care be gave the horse at thestart.
