JOB WORK HH
Major A. L. Gino would make a
line real estate agent. Saturday
while talking to him he said: “1
want you to explain a phenomena.
1 carried out some gentlemen to
my springs Friday and we found
it cold and the ground frozen bard.
When we got at the springs we
found the ground yielding and air
warm so much so that we pulled
off overcoats and gloves and all re-
marked that the weather was mod-
erating and we so thought until
the journey was taken back to the
city and we found the grouud hard
and the air cutting.” The Major
did not say the gentlemen with him
were prospecting to buy but if they
were he has certainly showed them
the warmest spot in or about Tex-
arkana and he will have an easy
time in making a deal.
Last night ..t au early hour it be-
gan to sleet and after Keeping this
up until a frozen coating was on
the ground it began to snow and
this morning the ground was car-
peted with a beautiful white spread
that delighted the hearts of the
little ones and caused a frown on
the face of those who had to turn
out and do outside labor in It and
its attendant slush when the thaw
sets in We are an anti snow and
anti-cold man every time and If
our “iouster" was of sulllcient heat-
ing capacity we would turn It on
to the weather man and make him
give balmy weather at all seasons
of the year.
Mr. John F. Hunter was full of
fun and song Saturday. Several
times be caught himself singing
"Rock-a-bye-baby" and ‘'close
them peepers.” When the report-
er found him he was bugging a bil-
let of wood. We asked him what
had happened and he said “why a
big baby at my house and all the
neighbors tell me it favors me to a
T" John we feel for you this cold
weather and hope while you are
scorching around the room at 2 a.
m. your “tire" will not come lu con-
tact with the tack ever ready for
the new made papa.
The sun came out on time today
and the snow got on a move and
soon all exposed places to the hud'h
rays were left bare of its white
covering. It. Is so with some men's
characters. They may appear white
and dean but a search light or an
X-ray turnedon to them will reveal
black spots under their seemingly
coat of whiteness. We should so
live and conduct ourselves In a
way that no amount of heat or
light could change our outside cov-
ering from the one we wear en-
graved on our heart and mind
