Freight Agent Sargent Plea-
ded Guilty at New
Orleans.
New Orleans La. Feb. 17. Judge
Parlange of the United States dis-
trict court today pronounced sent-
ence on the Texas ami Pacific rail-
road officials E. L. Sargent and L.
S. Thorne who a few days ago
plead guilty of violating the inter-
state commerce law. They were
lined $4000 each.
The first count against Mr.
Thorne was for leasing a certain lot
ot ground and cotton warehouse
known as "Sky Lot" in this city to
the firm of Martin Wise A Fitzhugh.
The lease entailed certain privileges
and terminal and storing facilities
that discriminated against the
complaints King and Putman and
in violation of the interstate com-
merce act.
The second count was for a viola-
tion of the scheduled tariff rates
and charges. The Hie third count
was for showing a preference to
Martin Wise A Fitzhugh by re-
turning certain dray age charges.
C'JRBETT AND FITZ
The papers are keeping up witli
the movements of Corbett and Fitz-
simmons. The latest dispatches
from their training quarters reads
thus:
Carson City Nev. Feb. 17.
Eighteen inches of snow covered
the ground today. Corbett began
training with a snow shovel and be-
ing unable to find a suitable hand
ball court he exchanged a lew vol-
leys of snow balls with the small
boys. Shortly before noon he visit-
ed Shaw s Springs but found his
quarters unfit for occupation.
Leadville Cos. Feb. 17.- Shortly
after Bob Fitzsimmons arrived in
this city he went to a blacksmith
shop and pulling off his coat made
half a dozen shapely horse shoes
In a remarkably short time.
"I've served my time In the busi-
ness" said he as he brushed a few
beads of perspiration from his fore-
head "and none of the boys can
give me pointers In the ring."
He brought the hammer down on
the anvil with a vigor that showed
his strength of arm and shoulder.
