DEAD LOADS OF SYMPATHY.
If there is anything the United
States Senator is long on it is sym-
pathy. They sympathize with every-
body and everything. When Cuba
needed help the senators said oh
yes we will help you “dontyou-
know.” We will pass a resolution
of sympathy tor you. Now that
Greece has gone to war with the
Turks the senators true to their
instincts have met and passed that
same old stereotyped resolution of
sympathy making slight changes
in it to suit the occasion. Here is
the resolution:
“Resolved That the Senate of
the United States being miipUul
of the sympathy of the United
States expressed for the Greeks at
the time of their war for independ-
ence now extends a like sympathy
to the Government of Greece with
its intervention in behalf of the
people of the neighboring Island ot
Crete for the purpose of freeing
them from the tyranny of foreign
oppressors and to restore peace
with the blessings of Christian civ-
ilization to that distressed land."
Cuba stands just as much In need
of help from Spain's oppressing
hand as does the Cretians from
Turkey yet our big high fed sena-
tors have nothing to offer but sym-
pathy. If we only had a Prince
George in this land things would
be very different as to Cuba’s fate.
Rate to the Big Fight.
Dallas Tex. Feb. 20.• Passenger
agents of railroads in Texas are
anxious about the rate to be made
to the Carson City prize fight. No
intimation has yet been received
from the comtrolling powers as to
what the rate Is to be. General
Passenger Agent Crush of the Mis-
souri Kansas and Texas said: “We
have asked for a one-fare rate
♦52 to Carson and return. I do
not have much hope however of
anything being better than the
regular round-trip SOO. The South-
ern Pacific holds the whip hand. It
a one-fare rate is made I believe
several hundred persons will attend
the light from Texas. If the 1110
rate is adheard to I do not believe
ho persons will go"
Hot Springs has a painter named

ly to fall from a scaffolding -15 feet
high to the ground tearing
through a sheet Iron rooting on a
shed without hurting him In the
least. Men with such luck as this
could wade across the Mississippi
river and never get wet or lay out

the opera house Friday Feb. 26th
will be produced in all its magnifi-
cent dazzling splendor on its pre-

amusing scenes scattered through-
out the piece are said to evoke
much laughter. The most note-
worthy features are the excellence
of Mr. Walters' company the elab-
orate scenery and clever specialties.
