The Galveston News says I hat since

Add to this the billions lost to the
Southern people through the effect*

some Idea of the recuperative
powers of this section of th 'Country
can be appreciated.

The success of Prof. Barnard’s
airship has stimulated other in-
ventors to renewed efforts in the
same direction. There is now being
built near San Francisco a monster
aerial vessel constructed on novel
lines with gasoline as the motive
power and the propelling and steer-
ing to lie done by strong aluminum
propellers. The ship will be 125
feet long and a company with a
paid-up capital of 1100000 has
charge of its construction. The
promoters expect to make a trla
trip early in .lune and will start by
daylight and sail over San Francis
co. They have not the least doubt
of the success of the vessel and pro
poso to cross tho continent in it. If
the inventor's high expectations
are realized the problem of aerial
navigation may be considered
solved.— Gazette.

BOYS ESSAY ON JOURNALISM.
A bright little boy who attends
one of the city public schools was
told by his teacher a tew days ago
to write an essay on journalism
and the next day he handed In the
following:
"Journalism is the science of all
sorts of journals. There Is a heap
of kinds of journals Journals Is
good things 'cept when they is hot
journals and then they Is just aw-
ful. My ma takes a fashion jour-
nal what is always full of pictures
of horrid old maids with the ugliest
dresses on 1 ever saw The
fashon journal is a heap good
er than the hot journal 'cause the
hot journal stops the I rain and the
fashon journal starts It. The fash-
on journal don’t stop nothing but
the broken window lights and pa's
bank account.
There Is sheep journals and hog
journalland brass journals too
and pa has got a journal down at
the store and writes things In II
about folks he don't want to tor-
get. Then we had a fat cook for
us named Sally Journal. She was
the funniest journal I ever saw.
She was a bald-headed journal.
They ain't no more journals that
I know of.
I’ 8.- I forgot to say that a man
what puts grease on the car wheels
Is called a journalist."- Ex.

LOCKED HIM UP.
Rev. J. B. McLaughlin in Jail at Hot
Springs for Contempt of
Court.
Special to the Gazette.
Bot Springs May 26.-Rev. J. B. I
McLaughlin the deposed pastor of
the Methodist church North in
this city was today fined #lO and
sentenced to ten days' imprison-
ment in the county jail by Chancel-
lor Leatherman for contempt of
court. The contempt proceedings
grew out of a difficulty between
Rev. McLaughlin as pastor of the
above church and its trustees who
instituted proceedings against him
at the church upon charges of un-
christian conduct. The charges
were sustained and the church tri-
bunal referred the case to the
quarterly conference with recoin;
mendatlons that McLaughlin's min-
isterial credentials be taken from
him. The trustees of the church
then sued out a writ of injunction
restraining him from the further
use of the church which was sus-
tained. McLaughlin in defiance of
the order of the court refused to
surrender the keys to the church
trustees hence his line and Impris-
onment for contempt. Rev. Mc-
Laughlin was placed in charge of
the sheriff who locked him up.
A GOOD ENTERPRISE.
There Is a project on foot to
form a company and creel a modern
three story building on the triangle
vacant block on State Line Avenue
owned by Messrs. Byrne and Scott
We understand that the owners
are willing to put the ground into
the company and take stock for
the same Such an Improvement
would give new life to the building
prosperity ot the town and imme-
diately other Improvements would
follow.
It Is proposed that the building
shall be modern In all respects.
The lower floor to be devoted to
stores the second floor to offices
and the third floor to halls club
rooms etc.
We trust the citizens will take
stock In such an enterprise as It
will beyond question prove a profit-
able Investment to them and add
to the prosperity and growth of
our town. Form the company ami
let the improvement be made and
It will follow that State Line Aven-
ue will be graveled from Broad
street to the post office another
much needed Improvement.
