Speaker Reed has made the dis-
covery that he Is a great man.
When asked about the threatening
letters sent him he said "The per-
centage of great men being killed
by cranks now-a-days is not great
enough to cause me any worry.”
The Speaker evidently expects to
get out on the general average.
Dr. W. If. Danforth ol Wisconsin
is back from Cuba where he served
the President of Cuba. He
says the insurgents are bound to
win that they are stronger and in
better condition than ever before.
He estimates the Cuban forces at
30000 to 30000 men well armed
and in good shape.
We would like to look into the
pleasant face ol some one who has
never had any derangement of the
' digestive organs. We see the
drawn and unhappy faces of dys-
peptic in every walk of life. It is
our national disease and nearly all
complaints spring from this source.
Remove the stomach difficulty and
the work is done.
Dyspeptic and pale thin people
are literally starving because they
don't digest their food. Consump-
tion never develops in people ol
robust and normal digestion. Cor-
rect the wasting and loss of flesh
and we cure the disease. Do this
with food. The Shaker Digestive
Cordial contains already digestive
food and Is a digester of food at the
the same time. Its effects arc fell
at once. (Jet a pamphlet ol‘ your

FT. LYNN FLASHES.
Summer has arrived.
Sulphur river is slowly tailing.
The festive mosquito is multiply-
ing.
The saw mill was shut down Fri-
day noon until Monday to give the
men a much needed rest after a
three month’s continuous run. A

Last Thursday was pay day here
when there was a goodly sum in
cash distributed among the em-
ployes of the Lumber Company a
large percentage of which has al-
ready found its way to the hub—
Texarkana.
A very pleasant social function
occurred at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. F. L. Tupper last Monday
night where a few friends were in-
vited to assist Mr. Tupper to safely
pass the midway milestone in the
broad road of life it being his for-
tieth birth day. Those who assist
ed in the pleasant affair were: Mrs.
Grimes Misses Grace Malaby
Blanch and Main I Tupper; Messrs
W .1. Owsley John Malaby Lurry
I’. A. Brown Onah King and ye
scribe. To say a pleasant evening
was had but tame'y expresses the
sentiment of all. Dainty refresh-
ments were served under the light
ol numerous Chinese lanterns and
other devices for ornamental light-
ing. The festivities were enjoyed
for several hours but as all pleas-
ant things must come to an end at
a late hour we took our departure
wishing our entertainers many hap
py returns

be classed as one of the bright spots
in life's journey. May prosperity
health and happiness be their lot
during tills life.
In my rambles in the afternoon 1
discovered a lost friend who is no
other than Dick Yarbrough one
time store keeper at Lynn later
station master at Doddridge. 1
had lost track of him forsome time.
1 found him on the corner of 9th
and County Avenue running as
clean neat and artistically arrang-
ed grocery store as I ever entered
why it is a positive pleasure to look
at it. Dick says he has a good
trade of a good class and thinks he
will be able to hold his own even
with the old establishments. Well
Dick I trust you will fully realize
your anticipation i and may your
whistle grow in volume and melody
until the mellow notes may draw all
the trade of Quality Hill to your
store.
Now in conclusion I desire to say
to the powers that be without mal-
ice aforethought and good will to
all keep the bike oIT the sidewalks
they are positively dangerous to
life and limb otherwise strangers
while in town will be compelled to
take the middle of the street. I
escaped but narrowly being run in
to while in the city. "A hint to
the wise" &c. Yours truly
Onck A-Wkkk.
