1 am quite ill today therefore I
tiust my readers will excuse any
short comings which they may dis-
cover in this batch of flashes.
Thanks to the all wise over ruling
providence there are signs of the
long drought being broken; it is
now raining gently. Trust it may
continue until mother earth is
thoroughly soaked and the malarial
germs cleared away.
The record for cases ol fever for
this place was broken last week.
Fred McClure was taken down ten
days ago with malarial fever I’. I*.
Elam followed suit two days later
with the same disease; last Sunday
the 3rd Inst W. D. Lurry sustained
a severe attack ol genuine dengue
fever and a few hours later Eugen-
ia Williams was seized with the
same malady. They were all very
sick but thanks to youth and
radical medical treatment they are
■ all convalescent at this writing.
Mr Lurry went to Texarkana yes-
terday and will probably visit Min-
eral Wells before his return and try
the efficacy of that famous water.

Mr. Henry Smith has been horse

neuialgla of the eyes. I trust the
gentleman may soon find relief and
be able to crack his whip as of
yore.
We have had a case of genuine
spontaneous combustion at the
saw mill here. Last Monday smoke
was discovered issuing from a large
heap of saw dust and other mill lit-
ter which has been accumulating
at and against the end id' the mill
for threu or four years which had
an enormous size being over 20 feet
deep and 50 or 00 feet In diameter.
It took lire near the bottom and 12
hours after the smoke became visi-
ble the Hames burst out In many
places Inside of the building which
was only kept in subjection by a
constant use of two line of hose
playing upon 11. The whole mill
crew has been working night ami
day removing t he pile of litter In ol-
der to extinguish the lire which Is
