TEXARKANA ARKANSAS WEDNESDAY EVENING OCTOBER 13 1897.
; FLEEING FROM YELLOW FEVER
; Railway Officials and Others Leave
» Shreveport on Account of Report
; of Yellow Fever There.
’ This morning at 3:20 o'clock Supt
• Morley and other railway officials
; of the K. O. I’. & G. Ry. passed
I through this city enroute to Mena
'• to make that place headquarters.
; Early this morning reports were
I Hying around that they (led from
• yellow fever.
From railway men it was learned [
I that there were four cases of the
; disease in that city. On account
i of these reports Dr. .1. W. Talbot
> telegraphed Dr. ICgan of Shi eveport
and he answered that there was no
; yellow fever there only a few cas-
es of dengue lever.
i Our people wen 1 considerably ex
cited over these reports and at
; one time a shot gun quarantine was
talked of against Shreveport. Some
yet think there is yellow fever
there but the majority think it
nothing but dengue.
On the tram going north just af-
ternoon today there were some
(ifteen or more Shreveport people
going north and this fact caused
some to become dubious of that
city.
The TkxarKANIAN Is her" to pub-
lish the n< wh as II happens. If jnv
yellow fever should accidentally
break out here most assuredly we
will al om e publish it to the world.
THE DELINTER AT W >RK.
MessrsO'llrieii an I \l Nall have
leased the dclintcr here from the
stockholders and employed Captain
J. 11 Hunter as general m.iimgrr
for the same. The lessees hive
been In the market for cotton seed
since th" season opened and they
are now buying all the seed they
can procure.
Il 'akes many car loads a day to
run them on full time and they gen
erally keep their store room for seed
Hik'd and more arriving dally.
The country people here find them
ready to give good prices and many
wagon loads of seed can be seen un-
loading at the mill. The dellnter
does not make cotton seed mcnl or
oil but simply takes the lint that Is
left on the seed from Ihe same and
sack the seed for ICuropean ship-
menl which Is converted Into oil
and meal on the other side of the
ocean.
The lint that Is taken from the
seed Hilda a ready sale In the large
cities and II Is used In padding com-
forts for beds and many other uses
It Is put to.
Captain Hunter mattes tin Ideal
boss as the men wlm work under
him have respect and conlldence In
him us also the farmers who haul
their seed Io him.
