Mr. Ab E. Ferguson one ol our
most promising young men re-

We don't remember to have ever
seen so many bens of line chrysan-

We publish today on the inside of
our paper an ordinance giving
John (I'Dorlierty the Hunter
Transfer Company and Hoffman
Hardware company the right to
lay a railroad switch in front of
their warehouses on Front street.
We had a pleasant call yesterday
from Mr. Will Black one of our
boyhood playmates. He is now
twisting brakes on the Cotton Helt
railroad. Will was no angel when
he was a boy but we judge from
his looks and conversation that the
world has tamed him down and
made a useful man ot him.
The very latest industry in the
South is raising the quarantine.
The crop was a large and costly
one but then it has perhaps saved
millions of dollars and many lives
and the money spent in keeping up
the fences about the crop lias been
prolHc of great good.
Yestereay Mr. G. A. Hays left for
Georgetown Ky. where he is to be
married to Miss Georgia Corley on
Wednesday. Miss Corley is an art
teacher a most excellent and ac-
complished young lady ami we con-
gratulate our Iriend in winning her
heart and hand. She was a visitor
In the city some year or two ago
and made many friends during her
short stay here.
The street cars got oil of time
today fifteen minutes and the
drivers or some one authorized to
give orders just al noontime
changed the Rose Hill car to the
park run without taking down the
signs and we heard many kick’s go
up against the management from
those who wished to go out on Ma-
ple street and beyond when they
were told to get oil' at Munday's
cornel' We think when the cars
are to be changed about In this
manner(he “Unger" or Index board
should also be changed.
Even the (late City Road Is talk
Ing about building Its shops and es-
tablishing Its headquarters or gen-
eral olllces out ol this city We
can't Imagine what has got Into
the air heie as to make our own
people trade oil'our location for a
few dollars. Il Is true we have
men here who would not give a cop-
per to see factories come here and
build up the town but we excuse
them for being purblind for the
mighty dollar Is as dear to the u In
this world as a seat would be In the
kingdom to come. We cannot ex-
pect people to retain their head
quarters here Il our own people
dicker to go elsewhere We are sick
