Hon. Carroll Armstrong chair-
man of the Democratic State Cen-
tral Committee has a call in the
Little Rock Gazette tor a meeting
of the committe at the state house
for Tuesday Feb. 1 to decide upon
a date for holding conventions or
primaries to- select state officers
etc.
A small crowd was out at the
matinee yesterday evening to hear
the celebrated Alfred Farland play
upon the banjo. The crowd last
night was larger and those who
were present were fully repaid for
the trouble of going and the money
spent for admission. Those who
attended the performance and
capable of judging tell us that Mr.
Farland is .a wonder with the banjo.
Friday Mrs. Jesse Heard was
granted a divorce from her hus-
band and was also given the custo
dy of her little daughter. It will
be remembered Heard is the man
who killed S. T. Blair the livery
man ot Little Rock and alleged In-
fidelity of his wife with Blair as the
cause of the killing. The good cit-
izens of Little Rock scouted charges
made by Blair against his wife
and it appears that the court did
likewise
Mr. Munson Superintendent of
the water works who spent the
summer in having a deep well
bored to procure water for his cus
tomers was constructing a raft on
Friday morning to get his machin-
ists around In the pumping room
on the water having raised in
Nix's Creek to such proportions as to
overflow the water station. Mr.
Munson savs he thinks he has all
the water he wants ami that lie
can run another twelve months
without drawing on his artesian
supply at tlie deep well. We hope
he Is not mistaken.

There has sprung up in the city
recently quite a demand for Texar-
kana Improved property and some
good prices have been offered and
refused. We learn the buildings
occupied by the Texarkana State
Bank and Brown's grocery store Is
held for MOOOO and property ac .
cross tile street opposite is held (
almost as high. The man who has .
business property in Texarkana who
can hold on to it will yet reap a
good price for the same when he
puts it on the market. It Is true
rents in most instances are cheap 1
but then the property brings a
fair interest on the money in-
vested.
