Now. that the East Side council
have taken steps to get the citizens
of the two sewerage districts to
meet we hope quick and certain
action will be taken to join oor
sewerage system with that of the
VVeet Side so that effai may be
dumped farther away. Bv ail
means let the people decide this
most important matter at once.
If the sewerage is allowed to go as
at present we may look for an epi-
demic of yellow fever here the
coming summer; besides we may
have a costly law suit which mav
end in an injunction forbidding the
use of our sewerage system; then
we would be “in the middle of a
very bad fix” sure enough. Let us
get together and decide this ques-
tion right. It will no doubt cost
the improvement districts two thou-
sand dollars or more but it is an
actual necessity and there should
be no hesitancy in having the con-
nection made.
The reporter has not put the
props under Saxon the street com-
missioner and jacked him up as to
Broad street tor some time and
knowing him to be good natured
and not given to combing a tellows
head with a six-shooter tor a little
thing as a good natured “jack-up. r
We commence by telling him that
there is an awful indenture in the
earth on Broad street in front of
the Lingold store that needs filling
with rock. Now we don t ask Mr.
Saxon to fill it and piy for it out of
hie monthly salary but we ask him
to in turn jack-up the city coun-
cil or the man who owns the prop-
erty and get permission and a
promise to pav for the work and
then have it done. This lake is the
last of the real bad ones and we do
hope to see it filled and made level
soon. Another thing the storm
water sewers on Broad street are
stopped up with sand—please have
them washed out.
