Court adjourned at noon yester-
day of the court house. It was a
representative body of men and
did excellent work.
Judge J. M. Talbot and District
Attorney R. D. Hart will spend the
day here today returning to
Jefferson tomorrow to open court
there.
Judge Joel D. Conway adjourned
court yesterday and left for his
home at Washington Arkansas.
He will return on Monday and open
the court for business again.

We learn from oue of the officers
of the Texarkana Light Guards
that the rolls now show fifty men
from Texarkana and twenty-five
from near by villages. The compa-
ny is fast recruiting and will soon
be ready to respond to any call that
may be made.

Jim Mack a colored workman on
the log train of the Texarkana A
Shreveport railroad while loading
logs on the car on Friday had one
to roll over him killing him instant-
ly. His remains were brought here
aud buried by C. M. Reeves.

The John Whitehead case is set
for next Thursday in the Miller
circuit Court.
We think the government should
give the volunteers a chance in the
fights in and about Havana. The
boys want to try their guns and we
believe that they will perform well
under fire.
Mrs. J. P. Kline and sister Miss
Mary Lansdale leave today to
visit their parents at Washington
city Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Lansdale.
We trust their visit mav prove a
most pleasant one.
• It was erroneously annnunced in
a morning paper that the tent
meeting would close tomorrow
night- We are requested to say
that the meeting will go on indefi-
nitely. Tomorrow night Rev. Cul-
pepper will again preach to railroad
men.

The reporter found the following
notice on his desk:
Carter’s Texarkana Light Guards:
You are respectfully invited to
attend services at Bro. Culpepper’s
tent Sunday eve at 6:30 with the
Texarkana Light Guards.

Sheriff A. P. Greer of Nevada
county was in the city yesterday.
Through the information and as-
sistance of Marshal Casey two of
the negro burglars who broke into
merchant J. T. Brooks’ store at
Presscott have been caught and
the third one located.
Yesterday most ot the time of
Miller Circuit court was taken up
in a grand larceny case—George
Hensly charged with stealing a
yearling from J. B. A G. W. Booker.
There were twenty-seven witnesses
in the case. Jury gave him one
year in the pen.
Mr. W. J. Buhrman has received
a letter from his business partner
Mr. J. L. Chatfield saying that he
and his family made the trip safely
to Bath Beach New York. Their
many friends here wish them much
pleasure at this famous sea-side re-
sort during the summer.
The Miller County Teacher’s Nor-
mal which has been in progress at
the East side high school building
for the last three weeks will termi-
nate next Friday. Professor Car-
den deserves great credit for the
efficient way in which he has con-
ducted the normal.

Tomorrow the sale of delinquent
lands in Miller Countv will take
place at the Court House. If you
want to buy some good real estate

have two years in which to redeem
but have to pay dollar tor dollar

cent interest on the money; if at
the end of two years land is not re-
deemed State gives a tax deed.
Mayor Hardin is putting his mon-
ey in Broad street property. He
has bought the property formerly
occupied by J. E. Benjamin and
receutly burnt and also two lots on
Broad street just below the Paul
Friensehner brick. The mayor be-
lieves that Texarkana will be the
coming city.
Mr. E. A. Dryer of the Woodfin
Furniture Co. has rented the up
stairs over Briley’s and will use it
besides the large three-story Be-
han brick recently purchased by
him. Building is being repaired
and he will move into it in a few
days. He will then have the larg-
est and most complete furniture
establishment in the whole south-
west.
