Texarkana has not less than
twenty fine new residences under
construction at this time. But
this is nothing new—city has never
quit growing since the first house
was built some 24 years ago. With
her eight railroads she is bound to
become a large and prosperous city
and that day is not so far away
either.
A large crowd assembled at the
Salvation Army barracks last night
and helped to swell the crowd to
enormous proportions. There were
great activity manifested through-
out the entire meeting owing to
the fact that two new recruits
from Kansas City arrived here yes-
terday morning and are lending
their assistance to chase the devil
out of town.

the whole load as it required only a
small sum to buy it. Brig is one of

P. M. Wilson an old time tele-
grapher from Dallas Texas west-
ern union office is here enroute on
a pleasure trip up the Pee Gee.
He will spend several days in Mena
and points near there. Mr. Wil-
son has been continuously employed
in the Dallas office for fifteen years
and everybody knows “Doc" Wilson
as he is familiarly called he being
a generous hearted man whom all
love. He is the guest of Manager
Hughes of the Western Union
while here.
The city engineer was being en-
quired for this morning by several
gentlemen who wanted grade lines
in order to place down sidewalks.
At the corner of State Line A vent e
and Broad street the grade as
planned about the corner building
did not suit some and the engineer
was sought to prevail on him to
change the slope of the sidewalk
from the corner leading toward the
Huckius House. We do not know
what will be done about it as the
workmen are now engaged in build-
ing curbing walks along the grade
line giyen.
' Mr. Ockander has opened up an-
other bed of gravel closer to the
city and is hauling from it now and
using the same on the West side
streets. We heard a gentleman
over there say that the gravel used
is not as good as that first put
down but we have confidence in
in Mr. O. and believe he knows what
he is doing in the premises and
would not put down inferior gravel
which would not stand the wear of
wheels for he is depending on this
work on the West side for future
contracts and should the gravel
show a tendency to wear or give
way his future work here would be
limited.
A man by the name of Kellar
who parts his hair in the middle
and wears pointed shoes and was
only waiting on tables in Chicago
for his health was given a [ SSOO
bill to step around to the bank and
have changed. He must nave got-
ten lost as the bank says no such
bill was brought there for change
and the young man has not return-
ed to the hotel though he is looked
for and his coming would be hailed
with delight by theCgentleman who
had entrusted him on the errand.
We should learn a lesson by this
act and henceforth when we have
any of our SSOO bills to change we
should step arounl to the bank our’
self.

It looks now as if we had to turn
around and whip the Cubans before
we are done with them. They are
acting in a sulking manner about
Santiago and seem to think that
Uncle Sara should not onlv fight
for and feed them on tree grub
but give them all the offices of gov-
erning the Island. We have no
patience with such people and
think now that Shafter should read
the riot act to them and give them
to understand that he will tolerate
no .foolishness.
You can’t better yourself if you
bring us your prescriptions in

THE EXCELLENCE OF STRIP OF FIGS
is due not only to the originality and
simplicity of the combination but also
to the care and skill with which it is
manufactured by scientific processes
known to the California Fio Sirup
Co. only and we wish to impress upon
all the importance of purchasing the
true and original remedy. As the
genuine Syrup of Figs is manufactured
by the California Fig Syrup Co.
only a knowledge of that fact will
assist one in avoiding the worthless
imitations manufactured by other par-
ties. The high standing of the Cali-
fornia Fig Syrup Co. with the medi-
cal profession and the satisfaction
which the genuine Syrup of Figs has
given to millions of families makes
the name of the Company a guaranty
of the excellence of its remedy. It is
far in advance of a.U other laxatives
as it acts on the kidneys liver and
bowels without irritating or weaken-
ing them and it does not gripe nor
nauseate. In order to get its beneficial
effects please remember the name of
the Company —
