TEXARKANA ARKANSAS. SUNDAY JANUARY 8. 1899.
DIAMOND ROBBERY.
—
Yesterday morning at an early
bour.the private residence of Louis
Heilbron was entered by a sneak-
thief who had hoisted a down stair
window and made his way up stairs
into the room occupied by Mr. Heil-
bron who is known to wear a fine
diamond stud in his shirt front. Mr.
Heilbron was sleeping and the thief I
extracted his diamond and took ■
$7.50 in money out of the pants
pockets of Mr. Heilbron and then |
visited the room of Charlie Heil ■
bron to go thr< i’g!i his pockets but j
Charley was avl.mil and saw the |
man and called to hi'- brother Louis I
to come there. Os course the sneak .
made a break to get out and did
gain his freedom as Mr. Charlie
Heilbron made no effort to stop him I
When Mr. Louis Heilbron rliscov- i
ered he was robbed he called up |
the police and told them that he i
thought the man who entered the
house must be the negr® “Bright
Eyes” whom he thought was the
party that had his diamond. The
police asked him if he would make
an affidavit and he said yes and
Marshal Dean soou had “Bright
Ev-’ arrested The negro had two
dollars and some odd cents in his
p cket when arrested and denied
having anything to do with enter-
ing the house. Marshal Dean turn-
ed the suspect over to Constable
Rochell and he locked the negro up
to await developments.
MALICIOUS MISCHIEF.
Yesterday the Texarkana Cloth-
ing company was given a fine doth
awniug with new cotton robes to
hoist and lower it as the occasion
demanded. Last night some malici-
ous person cut the ropes in several
places which will necessitate the
buying of new cues.
The manager Mr. A. C. Stuart
thinks it was done by boys who
have kept up this frolic of destroy-
ing signs and moving boxes and
doing other smart tricks since the
holiday nights when they were al-
lowed to have full sway to do as
they please.
The police should run the boys
off the street as soon as the curlew
whistle blows. These young bloods
should be taught a lesson by spend-
ing an evening in the city jail if
they cannot be controlled other-
wise.
MORE IMPROVEMENTS
Texarkana is ever making steps
foiward. We are glad to chronicle
the fact that the Texarkana Troy
Steam laundry ever up-to-date has
been making some extensive im-
provements of late; a latest im-
proved washer has just been put in
a line new delivery wagon and
everything brightened up about
their quarters in the brick just
back of M. D. Tilson’s on Clinton
street.
This laundry estallshment built
by the late Mr. Roderick Frazer is
a credit to the city—does first-class
laundry work. Mrs. R. Frazer
proprietress is ever courteous to
all and gives satisfaction to all her
numerous patrons.
THEY WERE THE RIGHT MEN
Deputy United States Marshal
Jake Bickley returned yesterday
from Omaha Nebraska where he
went to carry E 0. Egleston and
Eli Neal whom he captured as the
men wanted for robbing the post
office in that city last July. They
proved to be the men wauted.
This is a big thing for our officers
as these men were much him led on
account of a big reward offered toi
them. We compliment Mr. B.ckley
on his capture and tell him to look
out for other rascals as the coun-
try is full of them.
We had the pleasure of iuectlo«
Mr. H. V. Beasley who lias moved
herewith his family and is uow
domiciled at No. 410 Hazel street.
Mr. Beasley conies here as the
representative of the St. Louis
Branch of the Estey Piano & Or-
gan Company and will open an
office here for the sale of these su-
perior Instruments He has been
with the branch coitip.iny for six
years and holds the confidence of
| the lime and will opn up a good
ptock of these pianos and organs
i and have agents to take orders
| from the territory surrounding this
place. We welcome him to our
midst.

i ANOTHER NEGRO PLUGGED.
I Garland City la the Scene of the
Shooting Scrape.
Last Friday evening Jake MeGee.
came in from Garland City and 1
gave himself up to constable Crow
saying he had shot a negro on his
farm by the name of William Rusk. |
He says the negro shot him first I
but failed to hit him and he fired
back and brought him to earth;
how bad he was hurt he did not
know.
McGee was put under guard and
constable Crow left yesterday for;
the sceuce of the shooting to look '
after the negro and arrest him as al
party to the affray.
The Texarkana Call has a man on
detail duty at the general offices of
the Texarkana and Fort Smith
Railway who stands with a basket
ready to catch al) guillotined heads
as they fall from the official axe
wielded by a headsman in Kansas
City. The “detail ” even notices
the dropping of a pin the twisting
of an ankle the batting of an eye
up in the “rookery" and should a
copy of the daily report as publish-
ed in the “only” should reach the
Kansas City officials they would
send a man down here to blow up
the whole concern. If the Kansas
headsman sees fit to “sling” his axe
around and drop a head or two he
is not going to read the daily
“report” of the “detail" to find out
if the head is a red one whether!
the owner parts his hair in the
middle or uses bear grease foraj
greaser but he will whack down
and let the head tumble in the “de-
tail" basket that he may discant
on its gory locks as he may wish.
Dr. Rice who lives at Boggy
Arkansas in this county while
hunting on Boggy Creek a few days
ago came across a big beech tree
on which he found carved the name
of B. F. Giles following which was
Little Rock Pulaski county Febru-
ary 71842. Mr. Rice says he thinks
from the looks of the lettering in
the tree that they were cut on the
date mentioned and the tree is a
corner of some section of land there
belonging to Giles.
We never heard of such a brand
of pills as “Harters Little River
Pilis" such as has been prescribed
for the reporter of the Texaiikan-
ian by the local twister on the Call.
There is a pill made called “Har-
ter's Little Liver Pills” but even
these were not made as fillers as
the local suggested. We fear our
friend McConnell has not fully re-
covered from his spell of recent
dite. You should take a rest
“Mac" and let the snake editor
hive another chance.
