It is said that a band of cow
thieves are operating in this city.
The reporter want* to serve notice
on the thieves that his cow kicks
books and bites and don't giye
enough milk to pay for pulling the
calf off besides there isa mortgage
on the cow; and she is old ticky and
blind.
The editor of the Tkxarkanian
received a telegram yesterday from
Washington I). C. announcing t.ie
fact that Jewell Johnson of Com-
pany D. Second Arkansas Regi-
ment had been discharged from
the service and will return to pri-
vate life again.

a message informing her that the
remains of her husband had reach-
ed Miami Florida and would go
forward on first train for Texas.
We learn that the interment will
take place at Jefferson Texas.
Constable Crow returned from
Garland City last night and said the
version of the shooting scrape be-
tween Jack McGee and the colored
man was given correctly by McGee.
He failed to find the negro claimed
to have been wounded as he had
skipped out for parts unknown.
His wound being a slight one.
The city engineer has driven his
grade stakes on Broad between
Elm and Walnut and next week
Mr. Ockander will begin work to
grade and gravel the block. And
still the block between State Line
and Vine remains in the mire and
taud. There are some liberal
minded men in this block and there
are others who will not sign to
have it graveled. We are glad to
say these men are non-residenters
who are retarding this work.
Senator W. F. Kirby of Texar-
kana whose stentorian voice and
strong personality were features of
the last session in the house when
he had the honor of representing
Miller county arrived here last
night accompanied by his bride the
gifted daughter of Col. W. R. Kel-
ley of Texarkana. They are stop-
ping at the Capital.—Arkansas
