car line is at work on the Trigg
street bridge and will have his cars
running to Rose Hill tomorrow.
So far we have not heard any
one speak of putting in anelectric
street car track. It will pay If it
is extended to the suburbs of the
city.

came here for them last Saturday

The case against Mr. and Mrs.
Erie charged with grand larceny
was called today and the defendants
waived examination and gave bond
to appear before the grand jury.

We learn that another shoe
house will be opened in the building
to be vacated by Mr. DeLamar by

we have no authority to use names
we leave this part of the item off
for the present.
Captain Bolinger who has been
confined for five weeks to his bed
was down town today for the first
time since he was taken down with
typhoid malaria. He looks the
worse for the bout but we are
glad to say Is on the road to re-
covery.
The steamboat which was tied
upat the Pee Gee bridge a few days
ago on account of not being able
to get through the channel at the
draw was able to get over the bar
Saturday by the river rising and I*
now at the mouth of Mill creek
loading with cotton seed for thia
city.
Will McCartney is laboring on a
flying ship which lie expect* to
take a trip in to the St. Louis fair
in 1903. The reporter has been In-
vited to take a seat with Willie
but have returned the Invitation
with the word mxev written across
the same. We will travel by rail or
foot yet awhile.
We learn that Yarbrough and
Lambeth have rented the Hart
corner brick store house and will
move their grocery store into the
same just as soott as possible. The
house they now occupy will be used
bv Mr. Ed Llngold In connection

several other lines of goods to hl*

DAVE EDWARDS KILLED.
This afterneon just as we were
going to press a shooting scrape
between Joe Barkman and Dave
Edwards in the 16 to 1 saloon took
place resulting in the killing of
Edwards and wounding Barkmau.
We learn Barkman is shot in the
shoulder.
The saloon was closed as soon as
the shooting transpired and no one
could or would give particulars lead-
ing up to the affair.
Dave Edwards the man killed is
a brother of Stanley Edwards the
sheriff.
It is said that four shots were
tired two taking effect in Edwards’
body and one in that of Barkman.
Mr. W. K. Hill manager of the
agency of the Oscar Peper Tobacco
company is here today in company
with Mr. Lawrence their traveling
salesman for this territory. We
met Mr. Hill was favorable impress-
ed with him. Glad to hear from
him that Mr. Lawrence is one of
the best rustler on the road and
that the tobacco company they
both represent is prospering.

We beard an individual who sends
his children to the West Side school
complaining because the children
were dismissed on Friday during
the hardest part of the rain and
the children permitted to go home
iu the down pour which has caused
much sickness. Teachers should
use some discretion at times in
governing the children under their
charge.
Rev. Timmons pastor of the
State Line Methodist church
preached to a crowded church yes-
terday and all expressed themselves
delighted with the sermon. Mr.
Timmons has registered himself a
favorite with the congregation
from the start and he will do much
toward building up the church and
its institutions.
