PROPOSED PAVING DISTRICT.
For several weeks the following
committee appointed by the late
citizens mass meeting have held
a iiumbea of meetings to arrange
a paving district as voted in said
meeting: Q. O. Turner E. W.Frost
G. A. Hays T. C. McFadden J. P.
Kline E. K. Smith B. M. Foreman
J. D. Ingram. At a meeting held
yesterday said improvement dis-
trict was decided upon to embrace
territory within following boundary
lines for graveling the streets
making brick curb and gutters:
Beginning at the Union depot to
run north along State Line avenue
to the south line of Seventh street
thence east along Seventh street
to the center of Beech street
thence south on Beech street to
the center of Fifth street; thence
east on Fifth street to the east
line of Hickory street thence south
on Hickory to the south side of
Broad street thence west on Broad
street to the east side of
Walnut street thence south on
Walnut street to Front street.
The three blocks on East Broad
street between State Line and
Walnut to be paved with vitrified
brick. All sidewalks north ot Clin-
ton street to be twenty feet wide
said new improvement district to
pay tor the extra eight feet.
City council at its next meeting
will be asked to form this territory
into Improvement Dist; No; 3 for
the purposes mentioned. On ac-
count'of Imp. Dist. No. 2 having al-
ready gone to the full legal limit of
taxation it was unable to come in-
to this new district as it desired. It
is estimated that the proposed work
will cost ♦40000. and committee has
already had offer of money at 5i per
cent. and are confident it. can be
had at 5. We heartily favor this
this good work. On with the im-
provement.

THAT PEE GEE SHOOTING.
We made an effort last night to
i get at the shooting that happened
aboard a Pee Gee train near Bloom-
burg Friday night and through
the courtesy of deputy constable
Abb McMiokle was introduced to
a brother of one of the men who
was on the train at the time and
who got wounded in the hand by a
bullet fired by the conductor or
negro porter.
The gentlemen referred to is
Mr. White and he tells the fol-
lowing as comißg from his brother
who is now in the city.
Dave McDaniel and F. W. White
were engaged at a saw mill at
Vivian. They wanted to come
' home and met the train at Vivian
and gave the negro porter fifty
cents each to let them ride the
blind baggage. When the train
I reached Bloomburg the conductor
i discovered them and put them off'
i and as the train started they
would jump it again. The conduc
1 tor finally pulled his pistol and
shot several times but not to hit
( them. The porter ran back in the
. train and got his gun and shot a
I couple of times o»e ball striking
Dave McDaniel in the leg aful
White between the lingers of the
right hand. At this McDaniel
drew his pistol and shot at the por-
' ter cutting the rim of his cap.
> McDaniel and White then retired
• to the woods and walked across
1 the country to Queen City White
■ having a brother living there and
1 the next'day they were brought
here in a hack. On the way Mc-
Daniel’s leg is said to have been
broken by the motion of the hack.
i He Is now at his home under the
t care of a physician of the city.
In the Federal Court at Little
i Rock on Friday A. J; and Charles

A little scrapl on the East Side

wrong. When men in sudden anger

others to slop It as quickly as pos-
