The West Side of the city has a
sewer system but the people are
slow in connecting their closets with
the same one reason we suppose is
that it takes all the way from
♦2O to SIOO to make these connec-
tions and put in sanitary closets
and this amount of money is not
handled by every householder on
the West Side or on any other side
or place that the sewerage system
has been introduced. The people
are taxed to pay for the system and
to make the system general and
complete laterals leading to every
lot should be figured into the total
amount and paid for like the sys-
tem traversing the streets and
then we would have a clean town
and no kicking nor would it work a
hardship on private individuals who
cannot accumulate the money to
make these connections even if they
are threatened with the law's pros-
ecutions. We venture to say that
there is not a citizen living in the
sewer district of our city but who
would rather have sanitary plumb-
ing put on his premises if he was
able to pay for it.

Decoration Day.
May 26th is the South’s decora-
tion day a day set apart to deco-
rate the graves of those who served
in the war between the states and
also the graves of others. Our city
held two annual services of this kind
under the auspices of the ex-con-
federates of the city but they
stopped at this and the custom was
abandoned. We have heard several
; express the hope that our people i
would make the coming May 26th a i
half holiday for the purpose of dec-
orating and visiting the graves of
those who are buried within our city
limits. Who will take the lead?
