Miss Vida Corry Delivers the
Salutatory and Miss Lena
Dodson the Vale-
dictory.
Last night a fair sized audience
attendeded the graduating exer-
cises at St. Joseph Hall
The evening was a damp wet one
threatening rain and many who
had purchased tickets and had
looked forward to the pleasure of
attending did not turn out.
Prouiptly at eight o’clock the
first number on the program a
musical selection was given and
after the applause was over the
curtain went up and the fair salu-
tatorian Miss Vida Corry stepped
to the front of the stage and read
a well prepared paper in a manner
of confidence and ease.
Miss Dodson delivered the vale-
dictory satisfactorily to her triends
and credit to herself. Both young
ladies received many boquets of

RICHARD P. BLAND DEAD.
The Father of the Great Silver Move-
ment of the Lait Campaign
Silenced Forever.
Rlcharn P. Bland the great sil-
ver apostle is no more death releas-
ing him from the suffering of a sick
bed on the morning of the 15th
Future writers of history can say
of him that he was an honest and
unselfish politician who held his
party higher than his own aspira
tions. The Little Rock Democrat
says of him: “He represented his
district several terms in congress
and was a prominent candidate be-
fore the last national Democratic
convention for the presidential notn
ination. He was listed for his
integrity and faithfulness to duty.
He stood high in the councils of his
party and was held in special favor
by the people. It has been charg-
ed that his failure to receive the
nomination al Chicago was due to
lack of proper management upon
the part of his managers. He was
however philosopher enough to
give no Indication of regret at the
result and gave his successful oppo-
nent a loyal support. In his Heath
the Democratic party loses one of
its best and truest leaders. He will
be mourned by friends in every sec-
tion of the country.

PEE GEE HULD UP.
Last sight the south bound Pee
Gee train out of Kansas City when
near Shady Point was stopped by
train robbers who went through
the mail and express cars but did
notjlisturb the passengers.
The robbers made a small haul
securing only 15 from the mail
agent.
The night express carries neither
money packages or registered mail
The first intimation of the rob-
bery at this place was telegraphed
here by the Kansas City Star ask-
ing for full report from its corre-
spondent but the wires failed to
work and nothing definite could be
learned. When the train arrived
here there was a new crew on it
having relieved the other at Mena
that place being the end of the
division and the train men report
that the crew held up repot ted the
above loss only.
No reliance whatever can be
placed iu the utterances of the big
metropolitan trust owned gold
standard Imperialist advocating
newspapers. The writers on such
papers are it is true brainey and
good men but their work is all un
der censor—and the little jingo jo-jo
echoes flying the Spanish g. o p.
elephant at the head ot their edito-
rial columns are entirely irrespon
sible—hence be merciful on them
for their Senile ignorance as they
are only obeying orders having
long since sacrificed their limited
supply of Americanism principle or
manhood.
