TALE-BEARING.
Ilefore repeating a bit of gossip
it would be well to ask ourselves
three questions: first ‘ls it true?’
second: ‘ls it kind?’ third is it nec-
essary?’ This practice would save
many bitter memories and regrets.
The pious Philip Neri was once
visited by a lady who accused her-
self of slander. He bade her go to
the market buy a chicken just
killed and still covered with feath-
ers and walk a certain distance
plucking the feathers as she went
The wsman did as she was direct-
ed and returned anxious to know
the meaning of the injunction.
‘Retrace your steps’ said Philip
‘and gather up one by one all the
feathers you have scattered.’
‘I cast the feathers carelessly
away’ said the woman and the
wind carried them in all directions.’
‘Well ray child’ replied Philip so
it is with slanders. Like the feath-
ers which the wind has scattered
they have been wafted in all direc
tions. Call them back now if you
can.’ —Selected.

There is a constant demand for
gasoline stoves Why? Because
the new gasoline stoves work per-
fectly keep the kithen cool and
pleasant and do away with the
bother of having wood and kindling
around. But the chief reason is
on account of the cheapness of
gasoline as compared with other
fuel for cooking purposes.
By actual test it has been found
that four gallons of gasoline will go
as far as 1000 feet of gas. Com-
pare the cost and you will see the
saving will justify the use of gaso-
line this season.

TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS
Mr. Sim Easley is having a time
of it so it seems. A short time
ago he was arrested along with a ■
lot of other white gentlemen on
complaint of Charles H. Moores
charging him with theft of cattle.
The examining trial was had and
the Justice did not thiak the evi-
dence was sufficient to hold him to
the grand jury and he was discharg-
ed. He was soon afterwards arrest-
ed on a like charge and this time
Justice Henry placed him under
bond. He and his attorney took a
different view of the matterand ap-
pealed to the Circuit Judge to dis-
charge him alleging the evidence |
was not sufficient clear to convict.
Judge Talbot sustained the ruling
of Justice Henry and the case was
was then carried to the Court of
Appeals and this court sustained
the rulings of both the District
Judge and Justice of the Peace.
During all this time Mr. Sam Eas-
ley was confined in jail at Boston
and when he learned that he could
not beat the case in this manner he
gave bond and was turned out of
jail yesterday at Boston and return-
ed to the city.
When he arrived here constable
Crow of the East Side was on the
watch for him for he had a war-
rant of arrest for him on a similar
charge sworn out by a colored man
named Charles Henry. When Mr.
Easley crossed over into Arkansas 1
Constable Crow served the warrant.
He was carried before Justice W. J.
Smither who set the hearing for to-
morrow. He gave bond in the sum
of 350.00 with Mr A. A. Adams as
his security and was turned loose.
Mr Crow went out today to sum-
mon the witness in the case.
