nected with his Texarkana Novelty

Miss Cora Hudgins daughter of
Justice and Mrs H. P. Hudgins left
yesterday for Mena to visit Mrs. Hal
Norwood.
From Frank Fouke we learn that
track laying on the Texarkana and
Shreveport Railway is progressing
in a satisfactory manner.
Every man has his troubles but
there is no use exploiting them be-
fore others. Go tell them to the
policeman is good advice.
This delightfully cool weather
| must be truly refreshing to young

Ed W. Stuart has rented and

part of the brick building of the
Wells Fargo Express Co. now occu-
pied as a barber shop and restau
rant ami will establish a large
tailor shop therein beginning July
I. lie has both the lower and up
per lloors. We shall welcome him
over the imaginary line.
We see piles of brick piled at the
corners of East Broad street and
learn that same are to be used in
making a curb about the mouths
of the storm sewers. Let thegbod
work be done as soon as possible—it
looks bad to see these brick lying
around loose upon the street.

business at the old Hill stand to

ness and deserve a good patronage.
R H. Legg a prominent younjr
man of Naples Texas was found

house Tuesday morning his father

mitted suicide. His death is being
investigated closely by the coroner.
The workmen at the PeeGee-Red
River bridge are kept busy in keep-
ing the drift wood from lodging a-
gainst the bridge at Index. They are
drawing on this place for a good
deal of rope in which to hitch on
to logs for the purpose ot pulling
them into the stream and free from
the piers of the bridge.
The hannabullites now in control
of our national affairs will no doubt
soon attempt to strangle a free
press and free speech in this coun-
try-having already denied the use
of the mails to patriotic documents
—and those who oppose such a step
will be persecuted for treason.

Last night Mr. Perry Mahaffey
and Miss Pearl Taylor were united
in marriage at the Presbyterian
church by Rev. McFarlane. The
urshers were Messrs Jim Trigg
Oscar High Dick Gaines and Ray
Moore. The wedding passed off
in a quiet maner. The church was
not crowded as is usually the case
when a wedding is being had the
bad weather keeping them awaywe
suppose as the cause.
Marshal Casey informs us that
there is an ordinance against leav-
ing any teams unhitched upon
Broad street and that he intends
to enforce the same after it is un-
derstood. Now take warning all
ye who have been violatiug the
same. It is a good ordinance —if it
is not enforced it will not be long
before somebody is killed by run-a-
way teams. Let us one and all
join in assisting towards its en-
forcement Farmers who come to
the city should be told of this ord-
inance.
The Gate City News reports three
arrests on the West Side yesterday
for the failure of complying with
the hitching ordinance. We should
see that this ordinance is enforced
on this side if we have one and if
there is not such an ordinance see
that one is passed. We are having
entirely two many accidents of late
caused by carelessness of leaving
teams unhitched. The city will be
made defendent some day in a dam-
age suit caused by not taking prop-
er precautions and a big judge-
ment will be recorded against it and
it will be an incubus that will stand
and demand all the tax money tak
en in until it is satisfied. We have
good laws but they are not enforej
ed. Again we say if we have no
hitching ordinance let us call the
council together and pass one.
