Dr. Miles’ Nervine
A REMEDY FOR THE
Effects of Tobacco.
I
THE excessive um? of tobacco especially
by youns men is always injurious and
undoubtedly shortens life materially.
Mr. Ed. C. Fbsen compositor on the Contra-
Costa Aries Martinez Cal. writes; “I have
used Or. Miks' Restorative Nervine and re-
ceived much benefit from it. I was troubled
with nervousness dizzy spells and sleepless-
ness caused by the use of tobac-o and stim-
ulants. I took Dr. Slib ' Nervin ' with mar-
velously good results allaylngtl..'dizziness
quieting the nerve; and anal ling me to
sleep and rest proving in my c-.se a very
beneficial remedy " Dr. Miles' Dc-tcrative

When an “infant” industry has.
enjoved the helping hand of this
government for a number of Tears
and has grown rich and powerfull
and then strikes down competition I
we say deny it further aid and
abolish its charter to do business if
it will not deal justly with those
who have paid tribute to sustain it
in its beginning. The people of the
United States ought to have the
privilege to buy where they can
make the best bargain. The tariffs
required by the republican party
to be paid for the protection of the
“infant” industries of this country
are wrong unjust and cruel ini-
quities. Down with the tariff bar-

The one great ambition that has
an overpowering influence over the
young men of the United States is
to enter the political arena and rise
to the dizzy heights of prominence.
Many a successful business career
many promising young lawyers and
a multitude of farmers have been
sacrificed to this ambition. The
pathway of the politician is check-
ered with disappointments griefs
and sorrows; today the sun shines
bright for him; he is the proud vic-
tor of a hard-fought contest to-
morrow the rays of this same sun
are hid behind the cloud of ignomi-
nious and cruel defeat.
Henry Clay Daniel Webster
Samuel Tilden Jas. G. Blaine and a
host of others enjoyed the privi-
lege of great prominence in the
politics of America tut their last
days were days of sadness and dis-
appointment. For this desire for
political fame is cumulative—the
more it is gratified the more it
hungers for broader fields.
Twenty-three states ot the union
have changed their representation
in the senate of the United States
in the past eightyears these men
after enjoying their day of fortune
become suppliants before their suc-
cessors for anything which will
yield them a support for the re-
mainder of their lives.
He that hath eyes to see and ears
to hear may learn a lesson from
the career of these who have thus
spent their whole lives chasing the
phantoms of short-lived fame and
prominence. Learn a trade a bus-
iness a profession that you may be
your own support that you may be
independent of the whims and
caprices of the populace.

Cancer often results from an im-

and it is impossible to tell when it will
break out in the form of dreaded Can-
cer What has appeared to lie a mere
pimple or scratch has developed into
the most malignant Cancer.

THE WORK FINISHED
Yesterday Messrs. J. N. Crenshaw <
and W. H O’Neal who contracted <
with the east side to place down 2- <
150 feet of 12 inch sewer pipe which ’
was to form a union with the west I
side sewer was finished all but mak-1.
isg the connection which will re- 1
quire only a few minutes work and <
this to be done on Monday. This <
part of the sewer has been served ;
with three man holes and 4 lamp <
holes and the work on the same I
has been inspected as the work
progressed and pronounced good |
and the two contractors are not I
looking for any trouble when they 1
turn it aver to the proper commit- 1
tee to receive it. We learn from 1
Mr. O'Neal that the sewer to the I
old dumping gtounl will not be dis- ’
turbed but sealed up and if any- ■
thing should happen to tte sewer
now to be used which would call for
its repair and shut off the east side
for a time the old one could be
opened and used until the repairs
were made. We are glad to report
the work finished.
There is more catarrh in this section of
the country than all other diseases put
together and until the last few years was
supposed to be incurable. For a great
many years doctors pronounced it a local
disease and prescribed local remedies and
by constantly failing to cure witli local
treatment pronounced it incurable. Sci-
ence has proven catarrh to be a constitu-
tional disease and therefore requires con-
stitutional treatment. Hall’s catarrh cure

1 The day of the political boss is
passing let us hope that its sun will
i soon set to rise no more. The time
I when a few bosses could get to-
gether in some dark corner and fix
a program then come out and
crack the party whip and force the
• “boys” into line ought to be rele-
I gated to the rear as has so many
other evils connected with politics
’ Let every voter realize that he is
an integral part of this thing we
call the state and bring all candid-
ates and platforms before the bar
of his reasoning powers; then after
careful consideration let him go to
the polls and vote as a freeman
should vote. This will wither the
boss as the burning sun withers a
plucked plant and good govern-
ment will take the place of the con-
dition of affairs which we are wont
to call government.
We visited the new Y. M. C. A.
building yesterday and found Mr.
McAdoo and Davis the masons who
have contracted to do the brick
work under Mr. Rutter at work on
the walls with another mason
whose name we did not learn. Mr.
McAdoo said he had a force of six
men but he had other brick work
in the city and had three of them
at work elsewhere. He said if the
weather permitt.<l he would have
the basement walls completed by
Wednesday or Thursday. The
brick work is the best we have yet
seen laid in this city and when the
house is finished it will be one with-
out a flaw.

Let Us Call His Hand
A gentleman in this town so the
Courier says is willing to put $15-
000 in a theatre building if the
citizens will give SSOOO as a bonus.
We have talked with the same gen-
tlemen and it is none other than
Mayor Hardin if he will excuse us
for giving his name for we do so
as we know he owns the lots at the
designated place corner of Clinton
and State and also has the money
or knows where he can get it should
his proposition be accepted.
We think the building the mayor
proposes to erect will be a great
thing for our city and we unhesi-
tatingly say the citizens should turn
out and raise so small a bonus as
the mayor asks for. We have just
put up S3OOO toward placing one
building up that of the Y. M. C. A
and that added to a $9000 capital
furnished by the railroads and
now here comes a home man who
offers us a similar building to cost
twice as much as the Y. M C. A.
and it appears to us that we should
jump at the chance to have this
house under way.
If any one feels interested in the
project let him call on Mayor Hard-
in and he will unfold his plan fully
and show that he means business.
In our mind this is the only way
we will ever get an opera house.
Let us act and act quickly.

A druggist in Macon Ga. says: “1
have sold a large quantity of Mother’s
Friend and nave never known an in-
stance where it has failed to produce the
good results claimed for it. All women
agree that it makes labor shorter and less
painful.”
Mother’s Friend
is not a chance remedy. Its good effects
are readily experienced by all expectan'
mothers who use it. Years ago it passed
the experimental stage. While it always
shortens labor and lessens the pains ol
delivery it is also of the greatest benefil
during the earlier months of pregnancy.
Morning sickness and nervousness are
readily overcome and the liniment relaxes
the strained muscles permitting them to
expand without causing distress. Mother's
Friend gives great recuperative power to
the mother and her recovery is sure and
rapid. Danger from rising and swelled
breasts is done away with completely.
