The Sunday law violators in
Shreveport who were arrested for
retailing last Sunday will have
their trial to-day. It is thought
that they will win out in the long
run by appealing to the state
courts.
Mr. E. G. Myers the very clever
and popular representatiue of Barn-
hart Bros it Spindler the Chicago
type founders is a visitor in the
city. He made us a pleasant call—-
gave him a small order for new
material.
Sheriff Bickham received a tele-
gram to-day at noon from Garland
City to the effect that one negro
had killed another at West Track
ten miles below that place —no par-
ticulars. He will godown this after-
noon to arrest the shootist.
There was a gentleman here to-
day hiring logmen to log for the
new mills going up at Garland. We
learn he has caused several changes
to be made by offering more than
anyone else was giving for like ser-
vice and will get all the teams he
wants.
Several ladies were out to-day
selling tickets to the lecture which
is to be given to-night at the Bap-
tist. Church by Mr. T. T. Eaton the
subject: “Poor Kin." Mr. Eaton
can hold an audience spell bound
i»ne minute and the next have
them laughing. The price is 25
cents.
Charlie Reeves is the only man in
the city that has reported seeing
shooting stars thus far. This does
not necessitate the swearing of
Charlie for the stars were billed to
shoot and we suppose they filled the
date and Charlie was the only one
in the audience.
j. S. Ragland has received his fall
stock of Holiday goods—wedding

The ladies of the Christian Church
are canvassing for turkeys chick-
ens cakes and other good things
for their Thanksgiving dinner. We
met one of the ladies who said she
had down pledges for 12 turkeys;
several chickens; 25 large cakes sl2
in money and that the dinner as in
years gone by would be one of the
best that could be set in the city.
This paper mentioned something
I about some suspicious cases of sick-
ness out about Index a few days
since. We have heard little more
about the matter and trust there
is no small pox so close to us. As a
1 faithful watchman on the tower we
feel It a duty to sound the alarm
whenever there is danger—can do
nothing less.

lars in the White Cliff Cement Co.

the holders of the plant at this time
is here in attendance on the Feder-
al Court. He said to the reporter
that he was served with papers last
night to defend two more actions
