Push your work unless you wish
1 to be pushed by it.
I You cannot exalt yourself by be-
! littling yourself.
j Inability to forgive an injary is
1 the sure sign of littleness of soul.
1 To learn to bear your sorrow in
. silence is a most noble aebievment.
Between true thinking and right
living there is a most intimate reia
tion.
At the core of every form of fan-
aticism there is an element of mal-
evolence.
Our emotions are the steam that
keeps the machinery of our nature
working.
It is a fact which ought never to
be forgotten .that all great living is
hard living.
To sneer at theology is simply to
say that there is no place for
thought in religion.
God knows what is best for us
and gives us not what we wait
but what we really need.
Covetousness is as much a form
of idolatry as bowing down before
idols of wood and stone.
The fear of the Lord is the be-
ginning of wisdom and it is also lot
far from the ending of it.
The best repentance is not that
which weeps over yesterday's sins
but that which avoids them today.
The evil thought which you en-
tertained for a moment has left a
disgraceful stain upon the witness
of your soul.
Whoever in the pursuit if pres-
ent pleasures seeks to evade a pres-
ent duty is simply adding to the
weight of future burdens.

Anything to Please
She sailed into the telegraph of-
fice lapped on the counter The
clerk remembertd that she had
been there about ten minutes be-
fore as he came forward to meet
her. He wondered what she wanted
this time.
‘Ob'? she sa»d ‘let me have that
telegram I wrote just now I forgot
something verv important I wanted
to under-core the words ‘perfectly
ovely’ in acknowleding the receipt
of that bracelet. Will it cost any-
thing extra?
‘No ma'am’ said tbe clerk as he
handed her the message.
The young lady drew two heav
lines beneath the words and said:
‘lts awfully good of you to let me
do this. It will please Charley so
much.'
‘Don’t mention it’ said the clerk
'lf you would like it I drop a few
drops of violet extract on the tele-
gram at the same rates.'
'Oh thank you sir. You don’t
know how much I would appreciate
it. I’m going to send all my tele
grams through this office you are
so obliging.’
And the smile she gave him won d
have done any one good with the
possible exception of Charley —Col-
