Delivered Addresses °
Yesterday afternoon was the date
set for the opening of ‘the New
Railroad Young Men's Christian
Association building. The ladies
were out in oumbers dressed in i
their smartest frocks and gay f
plumaged bounets and hats and a
made a clese inspection of the l
building as to its interior and con
veniences and were pleased at what i
they saw. : i
A uight a reception was accorded i
the men and we think most every l
representative branch of business
in the city was represented in the a
personal of the crowd in attendance.
The exercises were opened with a
music by Professor Hagk's Orches-
tra and when the numbers on the !
program was finished the 200 seats l
in the auditorum were well filled. |{
Secretary Shipp of St. Louis the |{
gentleman who labored to the end I
of getting the building engcted here | ¢
acted as master of ceremfifies
Mr. Shipp made a nice Ji#t!€ talk
reviewing the work and ifs aims in I
placing th=« }ouilding re- and
complimented the liberal.ty of the l
city in making up theic prorata of |
monev to build the magnificent
structure.
Rev. D F. C. Timmons was asked
te deliver the invocation which be
did in a feehng manner. Mr. G A.
Hays was then called upon for a
short talk. His words were suitable
to sthe occasion and he was well ap-
plauded. Mr. John Carmichael was
next called out as a rcpresfntative

association had erected in the Uni-|
ted States 151 buildings and that |
there were 33000 members enrolleo |

view of the work in hand and was
listened to with much interest. |

Bar Association Meeting.
At the Bar Association meeting
held at Little Rock Hon. W. H
Arnold of this city was down on the
program to respond teo the toast.
“The Press.” We take the follow
ing frem the Gazette as to what
Mr. Arpold said which shows that
he recognizes the potency of the
press by his endorsement:
Hon W. H. Arnold responded to
the toast ‘The Press.” He re-
ferred to an address made at the
bar associatiom relating to trusts.
It was the duty of the lawie s to
warn people of trusts. It is the
newspapers whe gather this in-
formation. What was it that went
further toward molding public
sentiment and that of the lawyer
himself than the press? Three hun
