seeing sharks in the Missouri river

all in my power to secure that re-

We paid in war tax last year in

Mark Hanna has ordered a ring
put in Teddy’s nose and he expects

own campaign.
TRANSVAAL LOSS OF LIFE
Moralists are discussing the ter-
rible loss of life brought about by
the Transvaal war. Yet here life is
sacrificed for a purpose—for an hon-
. est principle. It were better to
preach against the needless sacri
• lice of life. Thousands of people
succumb to ailments which might
■ eassily have been checked in the be-
ginning. Dyspepsia carries off more
people than are killed in war. The
use of Hostetter’s Stomach Bitters
would save many lives. Constipa-
• tion may seem a little thing but it
invariably develops into something
• worse and the longer it is allowed
to run the harder it is to cure. The
bitters cures indigestion constipa-
tion dyspepsia and biliousness nat-
urally and permanently without
I shocking the system. It is good for
everybody.

FOR BRYAN AND STEVENSON.
“I believe that the anti-imperial-
ist conference to be held at Indian-
apolis on August 15 will endorse
Bryan and Stevenson" said Secre-
tary E. M. Ordway of the Anti-Im-
perialist League today. "What-
ever it may do I shall certainly
most heartily support the Kansas
City ticket. It seems to me that
the Democratic National Conven-
tion acted very wisely in declaring
anti imperialism the paramount
issue of the campaign for 1900. The
most effective way of rebuking the
McKinley administration’s attempt
to transform this Republic into an
empire is to vote straight for the
Democratic presidential nominee.”
Many thousands have been re-
stored to health and happiness by
the use of Chamberlain’s Cough
Remedy. If afflicted with any lung
or throat trouble give it a trial for
it is certain to prove benficial.
Coughs that have resisted all other
treatment tor years have yielded
to this remedy and perfect health
been restored. Cases that seemed
hopeless that the climate of fa-
mous health resorts failed to bene-
fit have been permanently cured by
its use. Bear in mind that every
bottle is warranted and if it does
not prove beneficial the money will
be refunded to you. For sale by

The death bed confession Os Rev.
Gibson a minister of California as
reported in the press to the effect
that he was the murderer of Misses
Blanche Lamonte and Minnie Wil-
liams for which crime Theodore
Durant was hanged a few years ago
is only another evidence that it is
not always safe to inflict capital
punishment where only circumstan
tial evidence points to the guilt of
the accused party. Durant was a
young man whose reputation had
been good up to the time he was ac-
cused of this diabolical crime and
throughout the long tedious trial
and the subsequent ordeal of his
sentence and execution he protest-
ed his innocence. His own mother
and the minister who took his last
dying statement protested that an
innocent man had been executed.
Rev. Gibson whose recent confes-
sion clears up the mystery was a
witness against Durant. He not
only committed the crime for which
Durant suffered but helped to send
Durant to the gallows.

President Diaz has again been
chosen to rule over the destiny of
Mexico. He is now 70 years old 43
of which he has given to Mexico as
an officer or soldier. He feels that
a younger man would be better for
the place and so states but adds
that he will serve his country as
long as it is the unanimous desire
of the people. President Diaz has
given the Mexicans a good adminis-
tration has peopled his country
with Europeans who have developed
the mines built railroads and
opened the country to coffee culti-
vation. If future administrations
are as liberal when Diaz is no more
Mexico will continue to prosper.

of about 400000 nearly four times
as large as that of a number of the

which for reasons best known them

DOES IT PAY TO BUY CHEAP?
A cheap remedy for coughs and colds is
all right but you want something that
will relieve and cure the more severe and
dangerous results of throat and lung
troubles. What shall you do? Go to a
warmer and more regular climate? Yes
if possible; if not possible for you then in
either case take the ONLY remedy that
has been introduced in all civilized' coun-
tries with success in severe throat and
lung troubles "Boschce’s German Syrup.”
It not only heals and stimulates the tis-
sues to destroy the germ disease but al-
