All Eyes On The Ball
Ricky Roberts, Eagles end,
extends his lanky frame in
an effort to catch a Chip
Head aerial in the Gorman
game last Friday. Right on
Ricky’s heels is Mark
Swanner, Gorman defen-
sive back, who effectively
kept the usually successful
Roberts from grabbing a
pass. This play ended in a
completion, but the referee
ruled Ricky did not have
possession in bounds. The
play also took place in the
end zone and would have
been a touchdown. An
interesting sidelight to the
photo is the match-up
between Swanner and Ro-
berts. They both run the
800 meter dash, and
competed several times last
year, even in the state
track meet. Roberts won
the track battles, however.

Eagles Ease By Gorman;
Face Santa Anna Friday
Goldthwaite and Gorman
battled a very close game
on Eagle Field last Friday
night.
With only two penalties
between the clubs, both
teams showed their desire
and competitiveness.
“This was one of our
best games as far as not
making many mistakes,”
Coach Chan Priest said.
“Ninety percent of our
players played one of their
best games. “We missed
an opportunity to put the
game away in the third
period, but showed maturi-
tyin the fourth quarter by
coming up with the big
plays on offense and tough

“They’ll be ready. I look

water woes are continuing,
says City Manager Dale
Allen, and if the Colorado
River fails to run within the
next 30 days, the city will
have use of only a limited
supply of well water.
The wells will supply
a little more than half of the
water that citizens have
been using the last couple
of weeks, Allen said. The
wells will pump 130,000
gallons a day and the
current consumption has
been running over 230,000
gallons per day.
“The city would already
have been out of “extra”
water if it wasn’t for Elbert
and Mike Hoffman and
their crews from Leonard’s
Farm,” Allen said. Hoff-
man pumped water down-
stream in the river for the
city to use. They pumped

The thirty head of stock
were stolen over a two to
three month period on, or
in the vicinity of, the
Baugh Ranch in Moline.
The investigation and
subsequent arrest cleared
up several other theft cases
in which fencing materials,
steel posts, wire, and truck
tires were also taken.
Property recovered included
four new bus tires taken
from Star School and eight
rolls of fence wire.
The man was placed on
$20,000 bond by Justice of
the Peach Marvin Lindsay,
under advisement of the
Lampasas authorities, and
taken to Lampasas where
he is awaiting trial.
The total evaluation of
the properties was estimat-
ed at between $10,000 and
$20,000.00.
“The irony of the case,”
said Wetterman, “is that
the owners of the proper-
ties were not aware of the
thefts.”

BIG STEP COMING
FOR STORAGE
This may be the last year
for the city to have serious
water problems, at least if
okay is granted from the
Texas Water Resources
Agency, the construction of
the lake will be let out for
bids, with work to begin
soon after, possibly 90 days
from now.
The city plans to build
the lake just about a mile
from the present filter plant
near the Goldthwaite city
limits south of town. It will
give the water department
nearly a year’s supply of
water on hand when full.
At the present time the two
off-channel reservoirs will
hold only a 45-60 day
supply.
Although the present
situation seems bleak, the
prospects for some relief
are in sight.

Mrs. Burnett has been
serving in a Sunday School
teacher spot for over 53
years. Both fine ladies were
presented beautiful plaques

director Butch Foster, and
right, FBC Pastor Doug

with 10 years and over of
