The Goldthwaite Eaglettes de-
feated the Water Valley Wildcats
72-48 in a Bi-District clash in
Ballinger Friday night, Feb. 15.
The Eaglettes scored the first
fifteen points and went on to lead
41-21 at intermission. Goldthwaite
came out cold in the third quarter
and saw their lead dwindle to
thirteen points.
By the end of the third quarter
the Eaglettes had extended their
cushion back to twenty points,
52-32.
Deborah Thompson had six
points and nine rebounds; Jill
Ward had fourteen points and
eight assists; Shelley Miles had
fourteen points; Tassie Long had
17 points; Julianne Saathoff had
fifteen points and thirteen re-
bounds; Keri Miles had three
points; Mindy Long had three
points; and Della Johnson had one
point.
Joy Childress also came in
during the first half and provided
good leadership and court play.
Also playing well were Liz Yeager,
Latricia Crawford and Shanna
Covington.
“I felt that we played well
considering that there were so
many fouls called in the game.
Water Valley was charged with
thirty-one fouls while we were
whistled twenty-six times. That
many fouls slowed the game down
and a fast-paced game is to our
advantage. We were twenty-four of
forty-two from the free throw line.
None of those statistics are all that
impressive, but they got the job
done,” Coach Rhonda Yarborough
stated.
“We owe the J.V. boys a lot
too. Many of them have beep
coming back after off-season and
track workouts to scrimmage
against us. Also the guys have
really supported the girls at the
games. We can’t express how
much their help and support has
meant,” Yarborough commented.
