Mills County Retired Teachers
met Friday, Feb. 7, 1986 at 2:30
p.m. in the Mills County State
Bank hospitality room.
Prior to the 2:30 meeting,
President Lee Ruth Campbell,
called a meeting of the Executive
Board and also Chairman of the
Standing Committees at 1:40 in the
Chamber of Commerce Meeting
Room.
Numerous business items were
considered. Alyne Ledbetter was
appointed to head the nominating

committee for officers for the next
year.
Reba Hale was voted on as the
most outstanding member of this
unit to be honored at the State
meeting in Dallas, April 10-12.
It was voted to give five dollars
to The Ed Bruce Scholarship in
memory of Veneta Joe Beard of
Waco.
Mrs. Campbell urged all mem-
bers to be present at the March
meeting where Marie Spince,
president of District XII will be a
guest.
After the group adjourned they
went on to the Mills County State

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cartwright of
Weslaco have been visiting with
her sister and family for several
day, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Hall and
Diann of Kempner. On Wednesday
of last week the ladies. Mrs. Hall
and Mrs. Cartwright, visited with
their sister, Mrs. Wilma Bramblett
and with their two brothers, Mr.
and Mrs. Louis Long and Mr. and

The room was decorated with
red and white valentines. A large
arrangement of red and white
flowers were centered on the piano
and smaller white vases with red
flowers were placed throughout the
room. Several trays of beautiful
decorated valentine cookies and
strawberry sherbet were served to
25 members and two guests.
Prayer was given by Euna V.
Barnett. Cleo Carswell introduced
Eloise Duren, a member of the
U.N.A.C.S. (Volunteer Nurses for
American Cancer Society) who
gave an imformative talk about this
program which teaches families
how to care for cancer patients in
the home. Members of this
organization are either nurses or
nurses aides. There are only two of
these societies in the United States
and Mills County is one of the
two.
Following Mrs. Duren’s talk
Linda Johnston showed a film on
colon rectal cancer. She said it was
one of the most curable forms of
the disease if detected early and
treated promptly.
Bonnie Evans gave three books
of slides of pictorial scenes in Mills
County to the Jennie Trent Dew
Library. The slides were made by
her husband, Julian Evans.
The door prize, which consisted
of lovely green pot plants, was
won by Herbert Cooke.
Maxine Neischel will bring the
Youth Fair
Listed below is the winners of
the Clothing Division at the Mills
County Fair and Stock Show held
recently. These results were turned
in by the Mills County Extension
Agent’s Office.
FIRST PLACE

Tonya Wilson, Sylia Miller, Shelah
Dellis, and Karen Rudd.

Stephanie Carlisle, Sonya Harper,
Lori Alldredge.
Grades 11-12: Pace Hamblen,
Kim Hickman, Theresa Smith,

Neva Kunkel, Sonya Pax, and Eric
Maxwell.

Mrs. Henry Long. On Saturday
another sister, Mrs. Darlene
Wallace, of Arlington visited here
with the same relatives. She
returned home Saturday afternoon.
A nice crowd attended the
Senior Citizen covered dish
luncheon at Goldthwaite. There
was lots of good food.
Henry and I visited one day last
week with Mr. and Mrs. J. D.
Murray. We spent part of the day
shopping or I might say looking.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Wilcox
and Foster visited with Mrs. Hazel
Moseley and son, Pat. of Star.
Also her sister. Carlota Blake of
Goldthwaite, visited over the
weekend. On Sunday they went to
Clifton, Texas and toured the
Safari.
Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Willey of
Star have returned home after
visiting relatives in California.
Mrs. Lee Moore made a visit to
the doctor one day last week at
Hamilton.
“Hi Steppin 60s” of Hamilton
played at their Rest Home at
Hamilton Monday of last week.
The KKK Band held their
practice at the Senior Citizens
Building last Tuesday.
Mrs. Inez Hammond, who is still
in Temple Hospital, is reported to
be doing just fine. They have been
walking her some and she is in a
wheelchair part of the time. Inez is
looking forward to coming home.
Her son, Bobby and her husband,
Rube, visited her last Saturday.
Shane Kalka, who is attending
school at Houston, spent the
weekend with his mother, Mr. and
Mrs. Mack Frazier, of Mullin. Also
with his grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. Stone Shipman, of Goldth-
waite,
Word has been received of the
death of Flossie (Yeager) Daugher-
ty of Cedar Park. The funeral was
held at Cedar Park with burial at
Pecan Wells one day last week.
Mrs. Daugherty lived in Mullin
when she was a young girl and she
attended school at Mullin. Mrs.
Daugherty had two girls and two *
boys, a sister. Bobby Vokel of
California, and a brother. Donald
Yeager, of Mississippi. She was 54
years old but had been in bad
health for some time but died of a
heart attack. Sympathy is extended
to the family.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Yeager of
Goldthwaite had as their guest last
week a brother-in-law. Jim Cavey. #
of Calimesa, Calif. The visit was
enjoyed very much.
Mr. and Mrs. Doug Hampton of
Bangs visited Sunday with her
parents. Mr. and Mrs.
Bramblett. of Goldthwaite.
Mullin has been receiving

a lot
of cold weather with misty rain
and the rain is so welcome. More
cold weathers is predicted for the
area.
Folk have not been calling in ,
news as well as they should. If you
would like to read more news
