Fifteen cars from an extra Santa
Fe Railway freight train on their
way from Brownwood to Temple
were derailed between Golthwaite
and Lometa.
Five of the derailed cars were
loaded with various types of fuel
oil. One car ignited and exploded,
causing fire to spread over a
number of cars. Most of the 71
fought defensive struggle last
Thursday evening with both teams
able to cross the other’s goal line
only once. The Armadillos, how-
ever, converted their points after
touchdown, while the Eagles were
unsuccessful in their attempt. Final
score: 8 to 6 San Saba.
The Eagles scored in the first
quarter to take an early lead when
Brady Rountree swept left end for
40 yards.
Just before the half, the
Armadillos completed a long pass
to set up their only tally. Their
P.A.T. attempt was successful and
proved to be the margin of victory.
In the second half, the Eagles
were able to move the ball, but
were unable to score. Time expired
with the Eagles inside the
Armadillo 15 yard line and driving.
Other participating team mem-
bers are Kirk Jernigan, Monte
Guthrie, Jesse Burns, Mike Ables,
Kody Sutherland, Ryon West, Cain
Cline, Chris Sides, Scott Hum-
phries, Dennis Auldridge, Henry
Balencia, Rudy Aguirre, Stacy
Carr, William Manuel, and Cody
Graves.
The 7th grade will combine with
the Sth grade this Thursday for a
game at Cross Plains. This is due
to the fact that Cross Plains has
only one team.
Game time will be 6:00 P.M.
